This guide contains gear choices for the aspiring Black Mage. I am aware that there are

many other choices suitable for the job at given levels. What i have picked out are the ones

that are most noteworthy only. That is, they will allow the player to do the best job possible.

Also, most BLM gear below 30 is very standard and there's nothing special about it. So those

will have to be chosen at the player's discretion.

Main Weapons

Maple Wand Plus 1.jpg

Low level INT boosts are great. these stat boosting wands will last you all the way to elemental staves.

Image:Willow-Wand-1.jpg

Image:Pilgrim's Wand.PNG

A wonderful tool for healing MP. It drops from the low level Notorious Monster Nunyenunc in West Sarutabaruta.

Image:YewWandPlus1.PNG

Image:SolidWand.JPG

Elemental Staves

These are the backbone of the black mage. Macroing these in with spells of the same element can be a huge help in spell resistance. High quality staves have additional accuracy and potency that can make them very desirable. I personally, would only reccommend HQ Thunder, Ice, and Dark staves as they are the most used and most helpful in Stun, Sleep, Drain, Aspir, and of course can make the world of difference in ice and thunder magic (which is typically the most devastating).

Image:Kirin's Pole.png

Mainly used for stoneskin purposes due to the MND boost. Also useful for elemental debuffs (Eg. Shock, Frost) due to the damage over time effect & potency are influenced by the caster's INT. (Capping at 150INT at 8 damage/tick, -13 to applicable stat)

Image:Diaboloss-pole.jpg

Nice for Drain/Aspir in Dynamis, Apollyon Limbus, and Einherjar cause of the permanent double dark weather in those zones.

Sub weapon

leftt

Helpful for a little addtional mp.

Elemental grips

Just like elemental staves, grips have added accuracy to the matching element and in this case,

+20 mp. Ice/Thunder/Dark grips are the most used. I would just stay with those because face it,

who really wants another whole set of grips to go with each staff.

Ranged weapon

Image:Fortuneegg.jpg

Gotta start somewhere, eh?

Image:Morion tathlum 2007.png

Image:Sweetsachet.png

An extra 2 INT at Lv. 30 for the little ball of hate, the Tarutaru only.

Image:Phantom Tathlum.jpg

Head

Image:SagesCirclet.jpg

Image:SeersCrown.jpg

For a cheap extra boost, the +1 has 1 extra INT.

Image:Cobra Unit Hat.jpg

If you didn't buy the Seer's crown +1, this is a winner with 2 INT plus 1 Hmp.

Image:Wizard's petasos.jpg

The first REAL head piece for BLM. Extra mp, extra INT and -4 enmity to boot. What more can you ask for.

Image:Yigit turban.jpg

More free Hmp gear and the +2 Magic Atk Bonus is nice for AM/AMII.

Image:Demon-helm-1.png

Packs the most INT for the head slot.

Image:Igqira-tiara.png

Big enfeebling boost for when u need those sleeps the most. HQ has +12 enfeebling magic skill.

Image:Zenithcrown.jpg

For those that are desperate for mp, this is a good way to do it.

Image:Wizard's_Petasos_Plus_1.png‎

This is the best head piece u can acquire as BLM, only using the AFv2 hat for HNM.

Image:Sorcererspetasos.png

A very nice piece for HNM. Extra elemental skill = less resists. Again, more enfeebling magic for crowd control.

Neck

Image:Blacksilkneckerchief.jpg

Image:Mohbwascarf-1.jpg

Image:Beak Necklace +1.jpg

More Hmp gear to go with that Clear Mind IV.

Image:Enlightened Chain.jpg

Image:Elemental Torque.jpg

A must have for any black mage.

Image:Dark Torque.jpg

Optional piece for Drain and Aspir.

Image:Enfeebling Torque.jpg

zzzzzzzzz

Image:UggalepihPendant.png

Obtained from the forced pop NM Golden-Tongued Culberry in Pso'Xja.

Magic Attack Bonus +8; Equip Elemental Torque or a INT Neckpiece when your MP above 51% afterast

Image:Prudence_Torque.png

Highest INT boost on a Neckpiece

Earrings

Image:Energy Earring.gif

Image:Cunningearring.jpg Image:Morion_Earring.gif Image:Morion_Earring_p1.gif

Image:EnfeeblingEarring.JPG‎

For those of you solo BLM, this is a priceless piece for your sleeps.

Image:Moldavite Earring.PNG‎

In the Labyrinth of Onzozo, Mysticmaker Profblix drops this.

Image:DesamilionsEarring.png‎

Obtained through the Automaton Assault ENM. This is for Elvaan only.

Image:GayanjsEarring.png‎

Also a reward of Automaton Assault. For the Galka.

Image:Phantom Earring.gif

+1 yields an extra 1 INT.

Image:Abyssal Earring.png‎

Reward from the completion of the BCNM - Divine Might.

Image:MagneticEarring.JPG

Reward from the completion of the BCNM - Apocalypse Nigh.

Image:Loquacious earring.jpg

You must have Sea access and 75 Ancient Beastcoins to achieve this.

Image:Novio Earring.png

Infamous drop from the Jailer of Love. Watch out for AV afterward.

Body

Image:Royal Footman's Tunic.JPG

Image:SandOrianTunic.jpg

Image:Mage's Tunic.JPG‎

Image:Seer's Tunic.jpg‎

Even though it doesn't have any INT, this is a pretty standard Hmp piece that will last up until you can get a Shaman's Cloak.

Image:Elders surcoat.jpg‎

Galka RSE is amazing for BLM, eh?

Image:Cobra Unit Coat.jpg

At 55, a good piece in place of the Shaman's Cloak, can let you use a head piece too.

Image:Justaucorps_plus_1.jpg

Image:Black_Cotehardie.JPG

the HQ gives +1 INT. Also very handy for hpdown gear (if going for activating Sorcerer's Ring) Unequip for Stoneskin

Image:ShamansCloak.png‎

An all around good cloak, but it will take out your head gear. I personally used this cloak all the way to 71, since the AF hat does not provide elemental skill, but only INT. As a solo blm from 37-75, skill was extremely important. However, if you manage to party your way up, the 3 bodies above are worth wearing a headpiece as long as your life is not dependent on resists. Combine with Seer's Crown +1/Wizard's Petasos Mindi

Image:Wizard's Coat.png

Macro this in for all your enfeebling needs.

Image:Blackcloak.png‎ Image:DemonsCloak.JPG

Yay! Refresh This replaces the Shaman's cloak. If you're not worried about resists, at least idle in this for the refresh.

Image:Errant houppelande.jpg Image:Mahatma Houppelande.png

Your Lv. 71! Bask in the massive INT of Errant / Mahatma. Pairing this with the AF hat is an awesome combo. A nuking staple for 71-72, good stoneskin macro piece, and unless you have the Oracle's, use the Houppelande for Hmp.

Image:Oracle Robe.jpg‎

This can effectively/debatably replace for Houpplande (unless using with stoneskin macro) AND a Igqira Weskit. (There is alot of debate about Magic Acc vs. Elemental Skill.) Drops from a Tier IV ZNM Sarameya in Mount Zhayolm.

Image:IgqiraWeskit.png‎ Image:Genieweskit.jpg

Unless you have can snag Oracle's or a Morrigan's Robe, you will never need another body for nukes.

Image:Ixion-cloak.png‎

Get this if you want the rights to say "I took down the pony". Other than that, its a nice piece, but not the best for this slot due to you can't wear headgear with it.

Image:SorcerersCoat.png

This will replace your Black Cloak as your standard refresh piece.

Image:WizardsCoatPlus1.png

An extremely nice +1 Artifact that, with +5 Hmp, can replace your Houpplande. Plus, an extra 2 Enfeebling is icing on the cake.

Image:SorcerersCoatPlus1.png

Refresh piece, plain and simple. If you're on the run in between places, this is great.

Image:NashiraManteel.png

Best Drain/Aspir Body

Image:Morriganrobe.png

Arguably the best nuking piece, obtained from Salvage. Replaces your Sorcerer's Coat for Refresh. Keep your Weskit around for high-resistance mobs.

Image:Dalmatica.PNG

Excellent idle piece with Refresh, Magic Defense Bonus, and Converts HP to MP for triggering your Sorcerer's Ring latent (however, there are cheaper methods to obtain this). Difficult to obtain and more work than its worth for most without an HNM shell.

Hands

Image:Mycophile Cuffs.jpg‎

From a forced spawn NM funguar Mycophile in Carpenter's Landing

Image:Elder bracer.jpg

I think SE is trying to say something...

Image:Magna gloves.jpg Image:MagnaGauntlets.png‎

For the female and male Elvaan respectively.

Image:Seer's Mitts Plus 1.JPG‎

These are worth getting +1 for.

Image:Sly Gauntlets.jpg

These drop from an array of BCNMs.

Image:Wizard's Gloves.png‎

Just...awesome. You will never get tired of these. +15 skill is the biggest boost for this slot.

Pro/Cons of Lv. 62 RSE

The Marine, Wood, and Dune pieces have huge MP boosts as well as 2-4 INT. You will be trading skill for MP/INT so if resists aren't as issue, these are great.

Elvaan

Image:WoodGloves.jpg Image:WoodGauntlets.jpg

Galka

Image:DuneBracers.jpg

Hume

Image:MarineFGloves.jpg Image:MarineMGloves.jpg

Image:Cobra Unit Gloves.png Image:Cobra Unit Crackows.png

If you're not going to have Zenith Mitts, pair these w/ the cobra feet and you'll get a partial set bonus. You can pick these up in Windurst Waters (S) from the guard just inside town for 50,000 Allied notes or 75,000 if you're from another nation.

Image:Vicious Mufflers.jpg

These gloves are dropped by Bloodlapper in Meriphataud Mountains (S), forced spawned using Gnat Pellets. They are a decent alternative to Yigit and Zenith mitts due to the MAB+5.

Image:Sorcerer's Gloves.png

Nice to have for Magic bursts and Drain/Aspir.

Image:YigitGages.JPG

Another alternative if you don't have zenith. 20,000 Points in Mamool Ja Training Grounds will get you these.

Image:Zenith-mitts.png

Available via the big turtle in the sky, Genbu. Trade the Aquarian Abjuration: Hands and the Cursed Mitts to Alphollon C Meriard in the Northern San d'Orian cathedral to remove the curse.

Image:Wizard's Gloves Plus 1.png

These give a bonus 3 INT in addition to the standard +15 elemental. Icing on the cake.

Image:Morrigancuffs.png

These would probably allow you to combine your Zenith mitts and AF hands. However, these are horribly expensive to obtain. It's up to you.

Image:SorcerersGlovesPlus1.png

Packs an extra +2 dark magic skill for Drain/Aspir.

Rings

Image:Eremites Ring.jpg

Image:TamasRing.jpg

The best ring you can get for blm. Reward for completing the CoP storyline.

Image:Wisdom Ring.jpg

Image:SorcerersRing.jpg

The latent is a bit tricky (<=75%HP and <100% TP) but can be achieved fairly easy with the right macros to adjust hp.

Image:Genius ring.jpg

Image:Diamond ring.PNG

These tend to run a lot cheaper than genius rings, sell em off and buy these or shell out for the next step.

Image:Omniscient Ring.gif Image:Snow-ring.png

The end all, be all of INT rings with the Tamas ring.

Image:Omega_Ring.png

Einherjar gold. 15,000 Ampoules.

Back

There really are no capes for BLM that stand out until 32.

Image:Hq black cape.jpg‎

Image:GleemansCape.png

If you're lucky enough to be part of static Einherjar.

File:Rainbow Cape.jpg Image:Prismcape.png

Image:Merciful Cape.JPG

Obtained by trading a Vice of Antipathy dropped by Ix'aern (MNK) to Meret in Tavnazian Safehold.

Image:Ixion_cape.jpg

Not much to say about this, get it if you can.

Waist

Image:Mohbwa Sash.jpg

Hmp piece.

Image:ShamansBelt.png

Image:QiqirnSashPlus1.png

Hmp piece.

RSE

Galka

Image:DesertStone.png

Galka yet again reaping benefits of RSE.

Elvaan

Image:ForestStone.jpg

Hume

Image:OceanStone.png

Mithra

Image:JungleStone.png

Image:Penitent's-rope.png

For those starting to show significant damage and hate pulling abilities, maybe some -enmity is in order. Plus a nice INT boost.

Lv. 70 RSE Ropes

Galka

Image:DesertRope.png

Elvaan

Image:ForestRope.png

Mithra

Image:Jungle Rope.jpg

Hume

Image:OceanRope.jpg

Image:Sorcbelt.png

This has more INT than any other belt.

Image:HierarchBelt.png

Big mp boost for those first spells as well as 2Hmp.

File:Witch sash.jpg

Magic Critical Hit Rate seems to be 10MAB.

Elemental Obis

Image:Anrin obi.PNG

Image:Hyorin obi.PNG

Image:Rairin obi.PNG

When the day rolls around that matches the obi, you cannot beat these. Obtained through the quest In the Name of Science. Get the others if you like, but space is invaluable.

Image:Immortals sash.jpg

Good balance of MP, INT and -enmity. if the Lv. 70 RSE belts aren't for you and u can't get Afv2 belt, this is a good choice. Penitent's Rope is almost always going to be better than this, and you can wear it 15 levels earlier.

Legs

Image:Mage's Slacks.JPG

Image:Seer's Slacks.jpg Image:Seers slacks-1.jpg

Image:Elder braguette.jpg

The only RSE that is BLM worthy ...you guessed it, Galka.

Image:MagicSlacks.JPG

Image:WizardsTonban.jpg

Very nice Drain/Aspir piece.

Image:DruidsSlops.png

A nice elemental skill and bridging piece until Mahatma/Jet Seraweels.

Image:Mahatmaslops.png Image:Jet Seraweels.jpg

I'm going to lump these in together because i think its one or the other. If you don't go with HQ Errant, i would get the Seraweels. They drop from Jaded Jody in Wajaom Woodlands.

Image:Sorcerer's Tonban.png

Pure macro piece for nukes that match the element of the day.

Image:Morriganslops.png

Godly for those with lots of money. For the rest of us, just a dream.

Feet

Image:Garrison Boots.gif

I recall these being stupid expensive because of how much Garrison sucks.

Image:Rambler's_Gaiters.JPG

These are obtainable via Treasure Casket in Rolanberry Fields. Very nice for lv. 25.

RSE

Hume

Image:Custom F boots.jpg Image:Custom M boots.jpg

I used these all the way till Rostrum Pumps.

Galka

Image:Elder sandals.jpg

I know, right?

Elvaan

Image:Magna F ledelsens.jpg Image:MagnaMledelsens.jpg

Image:MannequinPumps.PNG

These are obtained by doing the quest following the Mhaura mannequin quest. If you don't already have a mannequin, this may be too much hassle.

Lv. 62 RSE Feet

Mithra

Image:RiverGaiters.jpg

Elvaan

Image:Wood F Ledelsens.jpg Image:Wood M Ledelsens.gif

Galka

Image:DuneSandals.png

Image:Cobra_Unit_Crackows.png

(See Cobra Gloves above)

Image:YigitCrackows.png

Best shoes for your nuking setup. Equip Goliard (if you have them) for your Elemental Magic Skill Setup.
Obtained with 20,000 Lebros Cavern Assault Points.

Image:ZenithPumps.jpg

These are great, but extremely hard to come by because the Abjuration only drops from King Behemoth, Fafnir, and Odin. Good luck to ya.

Image:RostrumPumps.jpg

A very fun fight in Attohwa Chasm. You get to spawn one mob that spawns another mob that finally drops your junk. Feeler Antlion is spawned by trading an Antlion Trap. the Feeler will spawn Alastor Antlion, which drops your pumps.

Image:Goliard clogs.jpg

One of the best feet for BLM. Drops in Nyzul Isle assault from the floor 20 boss.

Image:Morriganpigaches.png

Obtained through Salvage. Great for Stoneskin, otherwise Yigit and Goliard will fare better unless you have the full Morrigan's Robe Set for the set Magic Attack Bonus.
