Information
An Archaic Mirror found within a Beastmen lair such as Mamook is a targetable structure that you can destroy. The amount of Archaic Mirrors in a particular lair will increase the rate of the residents' training. The more Archaic Mirrors an area has, the faster the Beastmen in that area "level up" for Besieged and progress from "Training" to "Preparing" and finally to "Advancing".
On attacking one of these structures, they give off a siren-type noise. Defending beastmen in the area around that mirror will attack. Regardless of how far away from the Mirror they are, they will always walk to it and upon seeing it being attacked and link to whoever has hate. (This applies only to the two guardians of the mirror. Other nearby notorious/regular beastmen still aggro as normal but will not assist the mirror.) Clear the guardians before attacking the mirror. When defeated, the mirrors will always drop an Archaic Mirror (Item).
Mirrors can be soloed by a mage job using DoT and casting from a different level as the mirror, such as off of a cliff or down in a gully. The mirror will not register being damaged until after a certain amount of damage has been done, and then the guarding monsters have a chance of getting "lost" and despawn on the way to fight the attacking mage, (on tests they got lost more often if the mage had Deodorize, Sneak, Invisible) or the monsters may be slept (depending on monster race), or the player may zone out and zone back in. This process can take over 45 minutes, and if you zone and take too long to return, the mirror can regain lost HP over time, and occasionally be cured.
Alternatively, the mirror can be soloed by a Monk at 75 using Hundred Fists and taking hits from all the surrounding NMs (1), then escaping quickly using an Olduum Ring.
Beastmaster is also able to defeat the mirrors solo. The two guardians can be individually killed by using Charm on nearby monsters and then Leave before the pet dies. Alternating between at least three pets level 70 or higher gives them plenty of time to heal before re-charming. Once the guardians are dead the beastmaster can stand back and send the pet to attack the mirror without concern for aggro. (This method was tested in Mamook at E-7 using Carriage Lizard pets. Dragonscaled Bugaal Ja did not aggro while the pet attacked the mirror)
You can view how many Archaic Mirrors and Prisoners an area has, as well as the current status of that area's troops, by going to the in-game menu and clicking "Region Info" then "Besieged".
1 mirror will respawn every 3 game days, except for three situations:
- Mirror is destroyed while the beastmen army in that lair is in a "Preparing" stage.
- Beastmen army in that lair is "Defending."
- Beastmen army in that lair is "Attacking."
They are not guaranteed to respawn in the same order they were defeated in. When a respawn occurs, it appears to occur randomly at any mirror location that does not currently contain a mirror.
