Historical Background

Avalon, in Arthurian legends, is a legendary island famous for its beautiful apples. The etymology of the word probably comes from the Celtic word abal: apple. Avalon was the place where King Arthur's sword Excalibur was forged and where the king is taken to recover from his wounds after his last battle at Camlann. Since both the Avalon Breastplate and the Avalon Shield drop from King Arthro the logical connection between them can be made.
