Beat Around the Bushin (pt.1) - Lower Jeuno Script Video Vola: What? You want me to tell you about the legendary black belt? Vola: Are you awake? If you think if somebody like you could get their hands on a belt so rare, you must still be in dreamland.
Vola: Only the best of the best are good enough to obtain a black belt, and even then, only the best among those are even allowed to wear one.
Vola: People call those masters of the martial arts "bushin". Don't tell me you've never heard of them.
Vola: As mighty as mountains and as powerful as gods, there are but a handful of bushin left in Vana'diel, but their presence is as great as Altana herself.
Vola: I've never seen you fight, but I can tell just by looking at your eyes that you don't have what it takes to don a black belt. You'd probably wet your hakama if you even laid eyes on one.
Vola: What? You think I'm insulting you?
Oh well. There's nothing I can say to stop you from taking the truth as an insult.

(My name's Atori-Tutori, and I couldn'taru help over hearing your conversation with the butter-bald guy.)
Atori-Tutori: (You say you're looking for a black belt? Well, it just so happens I know where you can get your hands on one.)
Atori-Tutori: (I can tell you, if you want to know, 'cause I know! You want one, rightaru? Rightaru?)
Atori-Tutori: (Listen up, okay? I heard that this prehistorically old guy they call "the bushin" has a black belt. If you ask him pretty-witty please, he might let you have it!)
Atori-Tutori: (Huh? Where's the bushin? Hmmm... I could tell you, I could...)
Atori-Tutori: (But what's in it for me? What do I get out of telling you? I'm going to need a little more persuasion on this occasion.)
Atori-Tutori: (You know, if somebody brought me a wyrm beard, I guess I could tell them what I have up here in my bitty-brain.)
Atori-Tutori: (If they left it here by the door, I could come get it, and WHAM BAM KAZAM! They could be on their way to the bushin.)

I've always wanted one of these thingy-mabobbers! Atori-Tutori: Look at these lovely lines! Look at these curvaceous curves! They remind me of an old girlfriend...but that's another story.
Atori-Tutori: You wanted to know about the bushin, rightaru?
The bushin?
Bushin...?Atori-Tutori: Ha ha! I was just fooling you. Everybody falls for that one.
Atori-Tutori: Now listen up, I heard that the bushin had a disciple--some funky-spunky old geezer. He'd probably know where you could find mister master.
Atori-Tutori: I think he lived in Vas...Vost...Boost...Bust...Butt...
Atori-Tutori: Bast...ok! Bastok! Yeah, that's where he is.
What? You thought I was going to tell you where the bushin was? Hah, you simpleton! That would simply be too simple!

How did a young'un like you know that I was a disciple of the bushin?
Degenhard: A wee little Tarutaru from the Tenshodo?
Ha ha ha! He never could stop flapping his gums.Degenhard: Well, you got me. I did study martial arts under the grand master once...but that was more than thirty years ago.
Degenhard: Ah, those were the days...
Degenhard: I was still young and chock-full of pep.
Degenhard: Back then, I spent day and night and night and day training to be the best. I had my mind on my muscles and my muscles on my mind. Mighty embarrassing, now that I think of it.
Degenhard: And then I met Maat...
Degenhard: To tell you the truth, I never saw the bushin wearing his black belt. He always had it hidden way back in the back of his dojo.
Degenhard: He did, though, show it to me once.
Degenhard: But that was only after I had proved my strength by bringing him a behemoth tongue.
Degenhard: Even after thirty years, the image of that belt remains crisp and clear in my mind. I can still see the deep tones of ebony. They say that the color comes from the blood and sweat of all the bushin that have worn it.
Degenhard: I'm sure if you proved your might to the bushin and brought him a behemoth tongue, he would let you take a peek at the black belt of legend.

Atori-Tutori: When I was young, I never could figure out what was so especially special about these thing-i-ma-doodies, but now...
Atori-Tutori: Hm? Hegendard told you that the bushin might show you the black belt if you brought him one of these?
Atori-Tutori: What? Degenhard? Are you saying I got his name wrong? No I didn't! He's the one that got his name wrong.
I don't know any Degenhards, anyway. Someone who doesn't know his own name can't be that great of a fidgety-fighter.Atori-Tutori: Oh yeah, I met with the bushin a couple of days ago. He looked as tip-top tough as always, but the prehistoric guy is getting on in years. He says he's been having terrible trouble with his eyesightaru.
Atori-Tutori: So sad...
Atori-Tutori: Anyway, he mentioned that he had another disciple--some spickity-spunkity old geezer that likes to pester young adventurers by sending them on quests to go fetch him stuff.
Atori-Tutori: If anybody would know what would impress the bushin, it would be him. Why don't you go and search him outaru?
Atori-Tutori: Who knows, the bushin might be so impressed that he'd give you the black belt! (But I wouldn't count on it...)

Well, it has been thirty years. Just look at me. I'm not as young as I used to be.Maat: Ah, those were the days...
Maat: What's this? You want to know what would impress the bushin? Hmmm...
Well, when I was still his disciple, I once presented him with an adamantoise egg.Maat: He was so pleased that he didn't just let me see the black belt, he let me try it on!
I could feel the weight of the souls of all the bushin that had worn it before me.Maat: But that weight was too great for me, and ever since that day, I've been striving to improve my skills.
Maat: But even now I don't think I could even grasp that belt with my own hands, let alone tie it around my waist. I still have much to learn...

This is a pretty pretty adamantoise egg! I can see why the bushin would want one of these.
Atori-Tutori: You say you got the idea from Maat?
Atori-Tutori: Maat...
Meat...
Mart...
Never heard of him. Oh well.Atori-Tutori: If I've never heard of him, then he can't be that super-duper. I bet he's one of those guys that spends their days training by themselves up in the corner of some lonely park.
Atori-Tutori: Anyway, anyway.
You've done good so far. Bring me a brown belt and I'll take you to see the bushin. How's that sound?
What? You don't believe me? The bushin and I are like blood brothers! I can take you to him anytime!Atori-Tutori: I mean, you've already brought him a wyrm beard, a behemoth tongue, and an adamantoise egg. One more pretty present and he's sure to hand over his black belt!

I knew you were an utterly outrageous adventurer the moment I laid my peepers on you. Atori-Tutori: I'm sorry that I made you run all around. But it's not like you had anything better to do, rightaru?
Atori-Tutori: Anyway, here's the black belt.
Atori-Tutori is not a man to break his promises.
Well, ta-taru!Atori-Tutori: What?
What about my promise to take you to see the bushin?Atori-Tutori: Hmph, you may be tough, but you aren't very brightaru...
Atori-Tutori: You've already met him!
Atori-Tutori: And I'm not talking about that old geezer!
Atori-Tutori: Or that other geezer either!
Atori-Tutori: Whatever.
Maybe you should work on buffing up that miniscule muscle between your ears.
Bye-bye!Atori-Tutori: Hey Galka, out of my way!
You're ruining my exitaru!
