Historical Information

Buffalo (Genus Bubalus) is a group of "bovine" ungulates renowned for their use as domesticated beasts of burden. They are native to Southeast Asia and the Indian Subcontinent. The African Buffalo (Genus Syncerus) is also a buffalo; it is known for its formidable strength. As adults, barring sickness they can easily defend themselves against lions. The buffalo native to America, though called "buffalo," are not true buffalo; their proper name is Bison. True buffalo reside in Asia and Africa.
