Historical Background
Based upon the description and the picture, it is likely that this item is based on the real life Bûche de Noël. This is a cake baked, frosted, and decorated to resemble the traditional Yule Log. It is made of sponge cake and decorated in chocolate frosting, sprinkled with powdered sugar to resemble snow and garnished with fresh berries, small branches, and tiny mushrooms made from meringue. It is served mostly in France during a réveillon - an enormous feast and celebration the night of Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.
The tradition of burning the Yule Log was believed to bring the family good fortune in the coming year, and the ashes of the burnt log were said to protect the home from fire and lightning.
