Call Beast

From FFXIclopedia, the free Final Fantasy XI encyclopedia

Job Ability

  • Calls a beast to fight by your side.
  • Obtained: Beastmaster Level 23
  • Recast Time: 5:00
  • Duration: Dependant on jug pet used.

Familiars

Various pets can be summoned using Call Beast each with their own level caps, strengths and weaknesses. See the list of Familiars.

Notes/Description

  • In order to use this ability, user must have a jug equipped in the ammo slot.
  • After a certain period, which varies based on the jug used, the summoned pet will disappear if it is still alive.
  • Jug pets do not decharm, and are approximately as strong as a Decent Challenge, but with lower HP than a normal mob.
    • Their level varies between 0 and 2 levels below the Beastmaster (up to their cap).
    • Monster Gloves cause the level to vary between 0 and 1 level below the Beastmaster (up to their cap).
    • Beast Affinity raises the level cap of jug pets by 2 per merit upgrade, to a max of 75.
  • Use of Leave will despawn the jug pet.
  • Jug pets are significantly weaker than wild monsters of the same level; they don't have a subjob, so their attributes are about 25% lower.
  • Jug pets are weak for solo play. They work best as an addition to a BST's damage output in party situations. In an XP party, a Beastmaster with the proper jug pets can be extremely powerful. Consider it like adding another member to your party of a level or two below which doesn't affect the XP of the party. Most jug pets will last their full timespan without ever taking damage (barring strong mobs with damaging AoE attacks). If a BST knows what prey your party will be fighting, they will most often be able to bring jug pets that correspond to the mob's weaknesses, at least at lower levels. HQ jug pets are expensive, but necessary at higher levels when other jugs are capped.
  • Jug pets are significantly stronger against easy prey and lower monsters, making them very effective for farming and soloing in non-xp conditions (where monsters are within a few levels of the Beastmaster)
