Armor Subsets (from AfD Discussion - please do not archive - please keep at top)

  1. The Assault Armor should appear on its own page because it is obtained through a specific end game event and is integrally tied to that event. Just as AF, Relic and Salvage armor are tied to their specific events, and therefore warrant their own subpage. More specifically, I believe the Nyzul Isle Armors should either be added to the Assault Armor Set page, or have their own separate page because they too are integrally tied to a "mini-game" event. (My vote would be to include on Assault Armor page ... with each group under separate subheading.) I also believe that the Artifact Armor and the Artifact Armor +1 sets should be on separate pages, as should the Relic Armor and Relic Armor +1 sets. These sets are obtained through completely different methods that therefore warrant their own pages. Finally, the low level sets of Armor obtained in Salvage should also be added to the Salvage page, separated by a subheading as well. (Most of these points are merely suggestions)
  2. The criteria for breaking off a subset of Armor Sets should be whether or not that group of Armor sets is integrally tied to a specific game event or "mini-game" if you will. Thus far, those sets are as follows:
    1. Artifact Armor
    2. Artifact Armor +1
    3. Abjuration Armor
    4. Relic Armor
    5. Relic Armor +1
    6. Assault Armor
    7. Salvage Armor

I added Assault Armor sets to the list, as well as a couple blank boxes to keep it looking clean. If more categorized sets will be added, they can use those boxes as a starting point.

These armor sets were already displayed on Armor Sets/Level 71-75. I've got to be honest, if there were more than three sets I would see so much of a problem, but I have to question the reasoning behind creating a new page and making very strange layout changes for 3 sets of gear that were already listed. --Eleri 08:33, 11 July 2007 (CDT)
Because, just as Salvage armor, they share one common source. They are also popular in endgame, and for newcomers to the game, they won't just "know" what the gear is called. So for example, I have two new friends who just started this game, I directed them to Ffxiclopedia.org as an all-inclusive source for information. I mentioned to them I was going to do assault. They asked, "what is assault". I gave them an overview of what assault is, and pointed them to the site to view the gear sets. The sets were able to be chosen from the list of gear in the armor list, but to know "which" armor it was, they had to go to assault, go to rewards, find an individual piece that cost 20,000, take its first part of its name "Pahluwan" for example, gather that "ok, thats an assault set name" - go back to the armor page, sort by "P", which for some reason - you have to be logged-in to do, click the set, and you'd see 1 of the three sets. Yes, there is a list of armor there as well, but they didn't even see it, as it is not put as the "primary focus" of the assault information page. Its more of an afterthought - and isn't given any real focus. Its kind of like putting the more popular news on the front page of the newspaper, it gets more hits and people will buy your paper. The core of the armor information is basically buried under a heap of assault information - and certainly isn't selling papers to anyone wanting to look at armor alone, in a quick-to-assess informational view.
Currently, with the changes I've made, it's set up so when people want to find "assault" armor, they go to the armor page, and right next to salvage armor (which if that qualifies for a listing there, assault armor surely would) you can now find "assault armor". The list I used was just the template taken from the Salvage one. It's not a new idea - its more of an oversight, that someone missed assault gear. Its a neat and tidy way to view the information quickly. My friends have already found it useful, in the one day I was able to direct them to it. They are at a stage in the game where gear sets like that are important, since they are low enough level, that its not too late to change jobs etc (yes, people change jobs for gear stats, and even looks alone, dark knight is a prime example), and not too early to start considering sets like that - since you can actually earn points fairly early on.

I see there were changes made to make it 5 boxes centered under the two rows of 4 boxes.

At home, this looks fine. However, on a Mac OSX compy using Firefox I'm on atm it looks bad. The row is not lining up properly. In Safari it looks fine though - so I'm not sure what is making it not look proper.

Problems solved.

I just changed it so the table was inside a div, and centered the div. This stopped the lines from spreading apart from one another when the page was stretched wider (The page would move text up as the lines became longer, and the tables became close to the image on the right hand side. This would push the first two rows left, but leave the bottom row far to the right. Turns out it wasn't just mac OSX, it was just a bigger monitor.) By putting it in one div, they all move together - so the look is no longer "jagged". Also added a 'minimum-width' to the div, to make sure it didn't get too squished when a page was made smaller.
