I really don't know when this rumor started, but posts on a variety of forums have all discussed this point multiple times. Having a Cardian card in ones inventory does not prevent getting aggro from the Cardian of that card type. I have Two through Five of all the Cardian cards in my inventory and still consistently get aggro from the Five's with by DNC/NIN, everything below the Five's are to low to aggro. --Pigface 16:29, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
The enigma behind these cards and their apparently lack of any purpose in game has started to interest me greatly. There are 12 Blank Card Cardian's in Windy. 9 in Port, 3 in Woods. I have attempted to trade combinations of cards to the Blank cards to get some sort of response. Jotting down what has been done here so that it is at least recorded, perhaps this will also build an interest in this particular game mystery:
- Traded the 2 of coins to every Blank Card, no response
- Traded the 2 of every suit to every Blank Card, no response
- Traded the 2 of coins plus 1 light crystal to every Blank Card, no response
- Traded the 2 of coins plus 2 light crystals to every Blank Card, no response
- Cardian's of Fives definately aggro when the Five's card is carried in ones inventory, though they appear to aggro sight instead of sound. I was running NIN as subjob, this may have something to do with part of it.

In regards to your idea of the blank cards, those are used as magic dummies for the wizards in training of the Aurastery, so I'd seriously doubt that'd have an effect.
