Category talk:Familiars

From FFXIclopedia, the free Final Fantasy XI encyclopedia

Would it be possible to add what familiars are strong/weak against (mob type or mob family type), this would be a great asset. (unsigned by M0nkeyonheroin)

The Beast Strength Chart shows this sort of information, though it doesn't mention the jugs specifically. --Tsakiki 13:14, 21 September 2006 (EDT)

Maybe this page should have a 2nd section noted Jug Pets that remain unimplemented. They *can* be found in the files. Some websites only first listed them after CoP was released, but Mysterytour has them listed before CoP's release (making me suspect those other websites only found them because they were looking for CoP material, but were not looking before). They have no recipes listed for them. The pets and the jugs are:

Lucky Lulush (Rabbit of another color?)- LV23 Lucky Carrot Broth [different from Famous Carrot Broth]

Coeurl Familiar (Coeurl)- LV38 Brain Broth

Fatso Fargann (Unknown)- LV43 Foul Blood Broth (leech or slime beleive leech)

Swift Sieghard (Unknown)- LV53 Mellow Bird Broth (bird crow type)

Crafty Clyvonne (Couerl)- LV63 Cunning Brain Broth

theres also a slime type

I don't understand why Jugs are listed as their own family in the Bestiary. Each jug summons a pet of an existing family. --Valyana 19:07, 1 March 2006 (PST)

you got a point but adding them to the existing family lists may confuse players making them think they are nms and since they arent found in the wild like summoners avatars they are listed as avatars these are special monsters and are listed as jug pets by family for that reason. i hope this clears things up for you Redchaos 04:36, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

Here's the following section rewritten. I tried to add it, but the formatting squishes it off to the side. Its not too relevant, but it is more of an interesting factoid about jug pets.

Lost Beasts

When The BST Job Ability Call Beast was added with the Rise of the Zilart expansion, many of its Jug Pets (excluding the CoP ones) were added in the April 2003 update. 5 Jug Pets, however, have sat idle in the game's files, unable to be crafted because they lack recipes. To date, they have not been added, nor does it appear there are any plans for them to be added. They are:

Lucky Lulush (Rabbit, possibly of another color)- Lucky Carrot Broth (LV23) [Note: it was possibly meant to be a rabbit of a different color from Hare Familiar & Keeneared Steffi]

Coeurl Familiar (Coeurl)- Brain Broth (LV38)

Fatso Fargann (Leech?)- Foul Blood Broth (LV43) [Note: It seems unlikely to be a Doomed as Undead cannot be charmed, nor a Bat since the name does not fit a bat]

Swift Sieghard (Slime or Hecteyes?)- Mellow Bird Broth (LV53) [Note: It is most likely an Amorph since Amorphs feed on Birds. The only logical choices were Slime or Hecteyes]

Crafty Clyvonne (Coeurl)- Cunning Brain Broth (LV63)

I'm amending my statement for clarity: I've tested the post-update (28 August 2007) call times for LifedrinkerLars and ChopsueyChucky. Lars does last 60 minutes, Chucky 30. --DesertWind

Format Issues

It's been far too long since I made edits to a page so I can't remember how to do this, but the list of links that should be at the bottom of the page is actually across the start of the table making the top portion of the table, and the links section both unreadable. This is in 1024x768, I'll have to check on my other comp to see if other resolutions are affected. --Syeria 02:24, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

Same topic (sorta), different specifics:
I've decided to add-on the same table of familiars with the elements in different order. I was in a party the other day using a pet that was well below my level. The added table should help dispel such confusion in the future. Now you can just look for the level cap and use appropriate jugs from that jug pet downwards/higher/whatever-word-works-best-here. Enjoy. --Tengokujin 01:29, 10 February 2009 (UTC) Clearly I'm n--b and shouldn't contribute. Never mind. --Tengokujin 04:30, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

March 10 Version Update

Following the Mar.10 update, in which the five "Lost Jugs" were explicitly listed as existing (having their icons changed), I decided to check whether in fact they have been added. So far I can confirm that all five "lost jugs" are able to be entered via the /translate command. If anyone can confirm whether or not this was possible before the update, we may have an answer as to if we can obtain these jugs now. Parvus 14:25, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Never mind, in the follow-up, Square-Enix stated:

- Icon graphics for some of the items have been changed in the Mar. 10 version update.
However the list of items included following items that have not been implemented in the game yet.
Brain Broth/Cng. Brain Broth/L. Carrot Broth/F. Blood Broth/Mlw. Bird Broth

However, they still remain available to /translate, and they explicitly said "yet". So we may yet hold out some hope for these jugs to be added in eventually. Parvus 15:17, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Duration of Jug Pets

Sheep familiar just lasted an hour for me. The chart says it lasts 30 minutes. Drjohn 22:04, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
