RE: En-spell damage.
Yes, Black Puddings are weak to magic in general (except Silence, they have a resistance to this), but they specifically takes EXTRA damage from any En-spell a Red Mage is using at that time. Any other normal monster will take 18 damage from En-spells alone from me, and these take 22 every time, indicating there is a modifier in the code for them to receive extra damage from it. It should be 25%, but it would have to be tested as a sub and with a lower Enhancing Magic, in case it is related to the level of that magic skill.

Other mobs with similar weaknesses to magic DO NOT receive this extra damage. Enfire on an Ice Elemental or a Jelly for eg. still yields the 18 dmg/hit result for me. For reference, as 75 RDM/BLM I have capped Enhancing Magic with two merits, taking it to Lv 260.

I know this was a long time ago, but elementals and slimes do not take "extra" damage from magic at all. They just take reduced damage from physical, which means in comparison they take "more" magic damage. They still take the same damage from spells as normal mobs, whereas flans will take bonus damage from magical sources, not just lowered resist rate. --Tarundi 06:14, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

"Elemental Magic Attack Bonus +25%"

This is not true. It is a simple 25% increase in magic damage taken. If it were Magic attack bonus then it would be subject to the same rules of diminishing returns of MAB. see Calculating_Magic_Damage#Target_Magic_Damage_Adjustment Argettio 13:50, October 5, 2009 (UTC)

Re: Also known as "flan"
I haven't run into these yet, but was there an NPC that called them this, because flan in the real world is not similar to black pudding at all. --Pinkfae 19:58, 6 August 2006 (EDT)

"Waking" flan

The page says "This will wake any hurt puddings." What does that mean? Will whoever has enmity with the flan that used the ability also have enmity from drained flan? --Jopasopa 16:26, 10 February 2007 (EST)

This means that any puddings which have been slept by a player and are then damaged by Synergism will be woken up, just as if they had been damaged by other means. --Sετεsђ of Ғεηгіг t/c 17:31, 30 June 2007 (CDT)

Flan are not immune to physical attacks. They are resistant, but not immune. At least all the ones I've ever fought. Tahngarthor 03:54, 29 March 2007 (EDT)

Historical background update

Now that the family has been defined as Flan, should there be an update to the historical background also? The historical background references "black pudding" so someone that does the backgrounds please take a look see what you can find out. --ЩåΫķẮ †Talk† 03:11, 9 October 2007 (UTC) --CharitwoTalk 04:04, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
