From FFXIclopedia, the free Final Fantasy XI encyclopedia

They detect by Sight. I walked circles around them with no Sneak on and just Invisible, so I know they at least dont aggro to Sound. Not sure about Magic though as I havent risked casting too close to them since I have been wandering mostly on my own.--Nynaeve 12:12, 24 April 2006 (PDT)

Sahagin-type

I am taking out the part about Sahagin-type being weak to lightning. I know that they are the "aquatic class" mentioned in the description, but that is more referring to the "Mamool Ja Savages" as a nation rather than "Mamool Ja" as a monster-type. A good way to think of it is a beastman reads about Windurst. They see that there are both Tarutaru and Mithra there. When they go EXPing in Windurst Walls, they see "Windurstian Housecleaner" (Tarutaru WHM) and "Windurstian Hunter" (Mithran RNG). The two have totally different skills and appearances. Will the beastman classify the two together? --Jopasopa 07:42, 21 June 2006 (PDT)

I support this...just because that's the best analogy ever.Feba 07:46, 21 June 2006 (PDT)

Forceful Blow

Is Forceful Blow only used by Mamool Ja using hand-to-hand combat? If so, is it only used by NIN-type Mamool Ja (naturally using hand-to-hand) or all H2H Mamools (including Mamool Ja who lost their weapon)? --Jopasopa 22:14, 25 September 2006 (EDT)

Yeah. All NIN class Mamool Ja use Forceful Blow. Rushing ____ and Vorpal Blade only used by Mamool Ja with weapons. --Ayrlie 22:03, 25 September 2006 (CDT)

Knight class?

Uh, the official description mentions a "knight" class. Who are they supposed to be? We know that the warriors are the Mamool Ja fighters, sages are the Mamool Ja mages, and aquatics are Sahagin. Could it be the Poroggos? Or maybe their raptors? (Thunderbolt Piraal Ja has a Mamool Ja name, although that could just be their naming scheme for living creatures.) I'm pretty sure its Poroggos, but I'd like to know so the beastmen article on the Wikipedia doesn't have speculation. --Jopasopa 09:53, 24 January 2007 (EST)

Def/Eva/VIT/AGI

/check def/eva research: BRD75/WHM, 242 dagger, 61 dex

  • L81 DRG: med eva at +44 acc (311), med def at 340 attack
  • L82 DRG: med eva at +49 acc (316)
  • L81 BST: med eva at +37 acc (304), med def at 336 attack
  • L82 BST: med eva at +42 acc (309), med def at 341 attack
  • L83 BST: med eva at +47 acc (314)
  • L82 WHM: med eva at +21 acc (288), med def at 396 or 397 attack (-55 for ProtIV: 341 or 342)
  • L83 WHM: med eva at +25 acc (292), med def at 401 attack (-55: 346)
  • L82? BLU: med eva at +56 acc (323), med def at 338 attack
  • L82 BLM: med eva at +28 acc (295), med def at 335 attack
  • L81 THF: med eva at +127 acc (394), med def at 336 attack
  • L83 THF: med eva at +85 acc and squid sushi (404), med def at 346 attack
  • L81? NIN: med eva at +69 acc (336), med def at 340 attack --Valyana 23:38, 29 May 2007 (CDT)

If the lowest attack value where they hit medium defense is the mob defense, these all match the formulas for C defense and D racial VIT.

If my accuracy numbers are correct and mob eva is the bottom of medium eva+30, they all match C racial AGI and a +10 racial evasion bonus, except for the BLU mob which has a further +10 evasion. I assume that comes from equipping the Evasion Bonus trait. --Valyana 09:48, 30 May 2007 (CDT)

Looking at an L81 BST again, this time using Sword 226:

  • With no food, I need +51 acc for med eva, matches dagger calculation.
  • With Squid Sushi I need +12 acc for med eva, so Sushi added +39 acc.
  • My base acc should be 200+26*0.9+61/2=253. +12=265, 265*1.15=304, which matches. --Valyana 00:18, 31 May 2007 (CDT)

The THF mamools seem to have a job-specific Evasion Bonus trait of +58 evasion, which is higher than the expected +48 from Evasion Bonus IV. --Valyana 11:24, 31 May 2007 (CDT)

There are four tiers of evasion in Mamools:

  • E skill (WHM, BLM): 318-329 evasion, 346-361 adjusted for level gap
  • C skill (DRG, BST, BLU): adjusted 358-390
  • A skill (NIN): adjusted 390-408
  • A skill+Evasion Bonus (THF): adjusted 448-466
  • Hit rate on a L82 WHM with 346 adjusted eva hits the 95% cap at 386 accuracy.
  • The difference between that WHM and a L83 NIN is 62, one more than both Madrigal with capped merits.
  • 386 accuracy on an L83 THF with 466 adjusted eva gives only 35% hit rate. Adding double Madrigal for +61 acc gives a tolerable, but still low, 65.5% hit rate.
  • My BST/NIN haste gear has 359 acc, 412 w/sole sushi, 449-455 w/ Blade Madrigal+sushi, 471-482 w/double Madrigal+sushi
    • So I'm fine with just sushi on the E and C mobs, dropping down to 86% hit rate on the highest eva BLU.
    • 77-86% hit rate on the NINs with just sushi, or 83-92 if I swap in OHat (424 acc) instead of Turban. If I assume that my other Haste is Swift Belt and Haste spell, OHat is a 7-7.8% improvement in hits/sec, while Turban is only 6.6%. Swift Belt is more of a tossup, 4.9% vs. 4.6-5.2% for Life Belt.
    • 54-63% hit rate on the THFs with sushi and OHat. 66.5%-75.5% with sushi and unmerited Blade Madrigal (+3% if fully merited).
      • 72.5-81.5% with sushi, ohat and unmerited BM, 7.9-9% improvement (better than Turban).
      • 76.5-85.5% with sushi, ohat, life belt and BM, 4.9-5.5% improvement (a bit better than Swift).
    • I haven't considered Warm-Up yet, as I don't know how much eva it adds.
