Reported

  1. Crit Hit% (listed under Other Skills) max out at 3.
  2. Remaning "Other Skills" have a max of 6 upgrades.

Can anyone confirm? If so we need another category for these (and any other) skills that max at 3.

3/17/06. This was true, but has since been updated. I'm working on an overhaul of the merit point page at the moment. I plan on splitting all of the categories into their own subsection. ~ Locano

History

3/17/06. I'd like to add a history section to the merit points page.

  • December 2005: Maximum merit points you can spend per item and per category was increased.
  • ????: Introduction of Job Specific Merit points.
  • ????: Introduction of Merit Point system.
  • Future plans to be able to gain spells and abilities via merit points (in ToAU expansion?).

Found it ^_^;; ~Locano

Locano's Overhaul

I have completed my revision of the merit points page. I hope everything is accurate.

Nice Work

Page came together nicely. Excellent work. Now that we have all the facts, I would love to see some color added. Maybe the various lists could be charts. If I have time I will try to put something together. --Gahoo 14:27, 17 March 2006 (PST)

EDIT - also you can see the history pretty easily from the updates found here. --Gahoo 14:31, 17 March 2006 (PST)

Job-Specific Attributes

Is the max combo per job, or complete total (All jobs combined)? --Daniel 08:54, 18 July 2006 (EDT)

Per job --Chrisjander 09:38, 18 July 2006 (EDT)

ToAU Merits

Anyone know where it's been reported about the new merits coming up? It might be in the July 24th Update, but I'd like to see any info I can on it beforehand. Thx. Chernabog 09:07, 18 July 2006 (EDT)

Shouldn't a brief description of all the Group 2 JAs be mentioned here, since unlike the other merits, Group 2's merits arent self-explanatory since the merits themselves unlock the new JA, rather than only modifying an already existing one as Group 1 does - Hiachi 03:47, 26 July 2006 (EDT)

I agree with Hiachi. Also, a few other things:

  • While the stylized TOC makes the page look a little better aesthetically, I think the normal TOC would be more intuitive for this particular article, mostly because the merit point interface in the game is arranged as a vertical list.
  • There have been reports of level seven merits kicking in at level 65 as oppposed to level 70.
  • Separating Weapon Skills and Defensive Skills makes sense but the idea that they are part of the Combat Skills category is lost in the current TOC.

I'll work on the article tomorrow afternoon, as it's bedtime for me now. :) --Ichthyos 05:07, 26 July 2006 (EDT)

Charts

Hope changes don't make it more confusing. Just trying to pretty-up the page and better utilize the space. --Gahoo 12:21, 28 July 2006 (EDT)

I like that the charts add color to the page and make better use of space, but I think the Combat Skills category is a little confusing at the moment. I'm going to play around with the page for a bit to see what I can come up with. ^^ --Ichthyos 14:23, 28 July 2006 (EDT)

Just made some aesthetic changes to the charts, and reordered the jobs based on the order they appear in the game. Also removed weapon skills and defensive skills from the TOC since they aren't actual in-game categories--people can click on the combat skills category to view them. --Ichthyos 16:30, 28 July 2006 (EDT)

Merit Point Crossover

The chart where it says "upgrades in effect per item" is unclear to me. I understand it's refering to general categories, but does this mean if you have a heavily merited job A and are playing level 15 job B, you will have merited stats from one of each general category or one merited stat? If so, how does the game decide which merit to allow you? --Alamond 20:03, 14 November 2006 (EST)

Adjusted the merit point ranges. As 55 THF I was able to have 6 dagger merits active. Rathanel 23:11, 5 February 2007 (EST)

I swear as a level 1 WAR NIN and other melee, I had 10MP, from MP merits. Are you sure at levels 1-9 there are zero merits in effect? I can finally unlock DRG to re-double check but it's kinda a point of pride that I don't even have it unlocked ^^ Lennavan 7 June 2007

ToA Group 2 Merits

BLU/COR/PUP's have been announced. Should they be added? (Especially PUP's since they gave them names.) For anyone who doesn't know, they are: (Got this directly from Elmer's thread on BG, so all credit goes to him:)

"Blue Mage
- For magical Blue Magic, forego the AoE effect for a Power Up of the spell (ABILITY)
- Make a spell that can target a party member into AoE (ABILITY)
- Add a TP Bonus to Chain Affinity (TRAIT)
- Raise the cap on magic set points (TRAIT)

Corsair
- Make the next roll a 1 (ABILITY)
- Erase a roll cast on yourself (ABILITY)
- Extend the duration of Phantom Roll (TRAIT)
- Percentage of success for Random Deal UP. Will prioritize commands that are used. (TRAIT)

Puppetmaster
- (Kuroko Change) Exchange HP between the Master and Automaton (ABILITY)
- (Ventriloquism) Exchange enmity from target monster between the Master and Automaton (ABILITY)
- (Fine Tuning) Accuracy (+ Ranged), Evasion, Magic Defense UP (TRAIT)
- (Optimization) Attack (+ Ranged), Defense, Magic Attack UP (TRAIT)
(NOTE: Did not specify Master or Automaton or both. However, the terms were machine-related so at least the Automaton will be receiving these bonuses)"

Merits effect on level 74 and below

Do skill merits (e.g. evasion) have any effect on levels 1-74? I see that attribute merits do, but there is no mention of other merits like combat skills or magic skills. - Eagle 21:34, 8 August 2007 (CDT)

  • Apparently the have the same effects as the attributes. I tested evasion today and it increased throughout low level jobs. - Eagle 06:28, 10 August 2007 (CDT)

Merits in effect: Attribues

Do attribute merits (STR, VIT, etc) take effect on Levels 1-9 (1), 10-19 (2) etc up to Lv 40-49 (5)? It scales 1-75 for items that have 8 stages, I'm just curious about the odd-ball 5-stage max attributes category. Llana No. No merits work until level 10. then you get the next one at 20, etc. and so on. There is a chart shown for it on the page.

Combat Skills

Is there a max combo for upgrades in the Combat Skills category? Neither the Weapon Skills nor the Defensive Skills sub-categories have a max combo listed. It'd be great if I could add +16 skill (max per item) to all of my combat skills for a given job! -- Boswen 13:10, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

At the top of the Combat Skills section includes the line "Max combo: 20". This is currently the case; you can only put a total of 20 levels into this section. There is no limit to how much of this can go to offensive skills and how much can go to defensive skills, however. --Taeria 23:55, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

re: job-specific merits?

The "Effects of Raised Attributes" section tabulates the number of upgrade levels in effect by level range, but the "Job-Specific Merit Point Categories" section states those upgrades are in effect only when the job is set main and fully level 75. I don't have the means to test, but it seems like my merited Double Attack rate kicks in from subbing WAR on NIN/WAR, and in level-capped areas. Is this possible?

I guess an easy way to figure this out would be if (for example) merited Elemental Seal recast remains shortened in level-capped areas and/or when subbing BLM. I've been hesitant to spend merit points on decreasing job ability recasts until this is clarified/verified. --Vaprak 11:16, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

The effects only occur while you're as the main job, and while that job is currently 75...

That means that you only get the +5% Double Attack from sticking merit points into it while you are WAR 75. Neither NIN/WAR 75 nor WAR 60 will get the benefit, even if your true WAR level is 75 in either event. --Taeria 18:51, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
