It would be nice if someone who was knowledgeable about the subject could post information regarding the impact of a shield's size on its performance in battle. --Ichthyos 20:06, 12 June 2006 (PDT)

It seems unlikely to me that a shield's damage rating affects its damage reduction on blocks; do you have a reference for that? --Valyana 23:03, 27 July 2007 (CDT)

Edited to include the need to be facing the mob for shield skill to activate --SamojDaCat 20:15, 20 January 2008 (CDT)

I haven't seen any other tests comparing different shields of the same size and this is not something you'd notice easily while leveling PLD.--JKL 15:47, 28 July 2007 (CDT)

"Shield Skill" is not the same as "Shield"

How about making Shield Skill a separate page instead of redirecting to here? It's kind odd to search for "Parrying Skill" and see on the bottom a link to "Category:Combat Skills" but get this page for searching "Shield Skill", and see it's under "Category:Armor" on the bottom. --Itazura 22:06, 11 August 2007 (CDT)

Use Parrying Skill as a model and go ahead and create a page for Shield Skill. You'll just have to create the page over the redirect (though you may want to include some sort of link to Category:Shields in there). --Chrisjander t/ c 22:35, 11 August 2007 (CDT)

I'm having trouble getting to the new Shield Skill page. >_< -Itazura 22:57, 11 August 2007 (CDT)

Easy skill up method

(I posted this under the Chigoe section talks as well) My ideal spot was Aydeewa Subterrane at F/G-9 there is a large room with two Great Ameretat and 8 Fossorial Flea. As a taru WHM/RDM using a club, Genbu's Shield, Phalanx, about +20 AGI gear and food, Bitter Corset for -20 evasion, Woodsman Ring for -5 evasion; I was able to take my shield skill from 132 to 200 in three hours by toying with 1 to 8 of these fleas at one time (no I am not kidding on how many levels I got, and with all 8). I am sure a PLD/RDM could do the exact same but skills start to slow down greatly at about 205 here. I accomplished the all solo as well; with Phalanx up these fleas hit 90%+ of the time for 0's non-crit. Keeping Phalanx up is your NO#1 PRIORITY. The second it drops you get hit for 10-40's and at their attack rate can take you down fast if not ready. Your TP will build to 300 very quickly so make sure you are spamming one of the two club MP healing weapon skills. When my MP got to about 400 I started killing them off slowly by using a weapon skill to one shot them. Nice way to farm demon blood to I might add. --Bekisa 20:45, 15 August 2007 (CDT)

I tried this method and it is works : from 130ish to 194, I camped in E/F 9 (map 2) in the ramp "D". After lev 194 i didn't get anything so i move to G-7 on map 3 to get my lev 195. After few mobs which didn't give me any skill up, i move to K-8 (map 3 again) to get my lev 197... but nothing after this level... Do you know where are bigger chigoes here ? And after do you know where i can go to get my lev 210 ?
I was lev 75 whm/rdm : like Bekisa said, Phalanx is your best friend here. Unlike he said i'm not agree with a fight against Fossorial Flea because if you critic on it, you OS it... Not very good to skill up because with 256 in club (and no special gear), i do a critic very often on this mob... It's maybe why he fought 8 in the same time... I don't recommend it cause it's dangerous : Fossorial Flea hit fast, and interrupt often your spells.
The easy method is to get one, don't engage it, just let hit hurt you and when you we you don't have MP to continue, just do a Hexa Strike on it (never miss a kill with this WS). Your only goal is to keep Phalanx, Stoneskin and maybe Protect on you. When you need to cure, just do a regen 1. On the last mob (K-8 on map 3), keep Aquaveil cause it hit more hard than other and triple attack a lot ? (if not, it attack just realy fast...) -- Gael77 17:50, 10 August 2008 (CDT)

From 197 to 207, I skill up on Chigoe which pop when a Marid do TP move (i did it with a friend NIN, i can't solo a marid). I was on I-7 on Wajaom Woodlands and i used same strategy than before.
Now, my goal is to pop a Grand Marid to get a stronger Chigoe and skill up from 207 to 210 to be capped.
I tried 4h to pop it in Wajaom Woodlands, but i saw nothing... I'll try in Bhaflau Thickets; i hope that i will pop ... -- Gael77 12:57, 14 August 2008 (CDT)

I have just got a Chigoe from a Grand Marid in Bhaflau Thickets. I skill up from 207 to 210. Was a real challange : The chigoe hit very fast and hard (like 100+ sometime, with phalanx up). It does triple and critic attack very often so you will probably need to slow and repose it to rebuff you, but stay focus, you will be capped soon ;) -- Gael77 17:00, 14 August 2008 (CDT)
