Historical Background
Fay
Several backgrounds can be given for "fay". Since it is made with Feyweald Lumber it is possible that the original name was meant to be Fey Gendawa and not Fay Gendawa (for a discussion of fey please refer to Feyweald Log). As it currently stands, fay is typically is used as verb when fitting or joining something up closely or tightly. As a noun, it usually refers to two now mostly obsolete words. The first is an an obsolete term for faith and second for a Middle English term for elves and fairies. Finally, the bow could be named in honor of somebody, taking a page from the Arthurian legends, Morgan le Fay was a sorceress and the sister of King Arthur.
Gendawa
A gendawa is a hinged bow which was used on Java (an island in Indonesia).
