Historical Background
This spear's name is a typographical error as it has been in many other games by SquareEnix. It is actually spelled 'Gáe Bulg' and is pronounced 'ge-a bull-gh'.
In Irish folklore, Gáe Bulg was the spear of Cúchulainn, the hero of the Ulster Cycle. It was forged from the bone of the Coinchenn, a sea monster, which was killed fighting another sea monster, the Curruid. Cúchulainn received the spear after training with the great warrior master Scáthach in Alba. It was supposedly very powerful, but could only be used in very specific conditions. It could only be used in the vicinity of a stream. When thrown, it would enter its target with a single wound then burst open, unleashing 30 barbs. Gáe Bulg is Irish for "notched spear", "belly-spear", or possibly "lightning spear".
