Historical Background

Odin was referred to by more than 200 names which hint at his various roles. One of these names was Gagnrath (more commonly written as: Gagnrad) which means "Advantage-Counsel". In the Poetic Edda Odin named himself Gagnrad when he went to Vafthruthnir.
