Historical Background
Ghul-I-Beaban seems to derive from European accounts of Central Asia (e.g. Afghanistan and parts of Iran). The only reference that can be found is Henry Yule's Cathar and the Way Tither (1866) (Yule researched medieval accounts of travel to Central Asia). This work describes accounts of a demonic ghoul which was called Ghul-I-Beaban which very large and which devoured people right off the horse they were riding as they would ride across the mountain and desert wastes of those lands. The name seems to mean "Ghoul of the Waste" in one of the languages from Central Asia.
