Historical Background
Was the name of a Chilean mythical water beast; also known as Vulpangue or the fox-serpent. It was described often as a dragon or mysterious fish, with a serpent body and a fox head, or as a vast flat circular being with eyes around the edges that inhabited the lakes high in the Andes. An Account of the creature was given in "An Essay on the Natural Order of Chile (1782)" by the prelate Juan Ignacio Molina. Molina speculated that it was probably a giant manta ray or squid, hence the portrayal by SE as a Sea Monk.
