Historical Background

In Christian demonology (Late Medieval- Early Modern European), Chomiel is a Chief Duke (correct, not a Grand Marquis), one of 12 working for Demoriel, Emperor of the North, one of the angels of the compass directions. He is found referenced in the Ars Theurgia Goetia (the second book of the Lesser Key of Solomon). The other emperors are: Carnesiel (East), Caspiel (South), and Amenadiel (West). These angels and their servants are considered to be able to perform both good and evil.

Only two Demons bear the title Grand [Rank] in their name. Many of the demons from these texts have titles bearing Grand or Great in their name. It seems odd to keep the Grand/Great part for some NMs, but not for others. It is also strange Square-Enix chose a name from another work since the Ars Goetia and Pseudomonarchia Dæmonum still have many unused names, especially since Chomiel is a neutral Angel.
