Sexagenary Cycle (干支)
Every new year the sexagenary cycle, or "Chinese New Year", animal runs through most areas of Vana'diel.
The following is a list of which FFXI monster has appeared each year in place of the sexagenary cycle animal:
- 2003 - 未 (Sheep/Goat)
- 2004 - 申 (Monkey)
- 2005 - 酉 (Chicken/Rooster)
- 2006 - 戌 (Dog)
- 2007 - 亥 (Pig/Boar)
- 2008 - 子 (Rat)
- 2009 - 丑 (Ox/Cow/Bull)
- ???
- 2010 - 寅 (Tiger)
- ???
- 2011 - 卯 (Rabbit)
- ???
- 2012 - 辰 (Dragon)
- ???
- 2013 - 巳 (Snake)
- ???
- 2014 - 午 (Horse)
- ???
In 2015 this cycle will start over again.
