The Dark Lilies
The event starters can be found at:
- Northern San d'Oria: Gertrude (D-8) West Ronfaure Gate
- Windurst Waters: Roger (F-5) West Sarutabaruta Gate
- Bastok Markets: Brian (G-9) Main Fountain Area
- CAUTION! Ensure you you do not leave the area. If you do, you will have to start over at the starting NPCs.
- Talk to one of the event starters in the 3 nations.
- After accepting, trade sweets to a costumed NPC (looks like a monster) until you receive a monster costume.
- Costumes only last for a short ammount of time, so find the target Dark Lilly Ghost first and then obtain a costume from a nearby NPC.
- When you have found the Ghost, (while in a costume) follow behind them. DO NOT LET THEM SEE YOU. If they see you, your costume will be removed, and you will have to find a new costume.
- The ghosts will walk along a set path but sometimes stop and turn around in a circle (usually clockwise). The harder ghosts also change directions and start turning counter-clockwise midway.
- When they are turning, you should keep yourself behind them at all times so they don't see you.
- Another option is keep a short distance (at least 10') between yourself and the ghost who will be unable to see you even if they are looking directly at you. Just ensure you're close enough to be able to hear them speak.
- During the time that you are successfully following the ghosts in costume, they will tell a story. Your goal is to listen to their entire tale. You can tell when you've come to the end of the story when the ghost says something about knowing you're there and they want to be left alone in some way.
- If the ghost catches you, do not be discouraged. You don't have to completely start over. Just get back in costume again, and when you resume following the ghost, they will continue the story where they left off.
- Once you have heard the whole story, go back to the event starter to collect your prize.
- If you zone at any time during this mini-quest, it will be canceled and you will have to start over.
- If you already have the Witch Hat when finishing this quest you'll be rewarded with fireworks.
- Talk to one of the event starters in the 3 nations.
- Allows purchase of the lantern (10,000 gil) for the country you are in from the moogles when worn.
- After obtaining the Witch Hat, you need to wait until the next Vana'diel day to start this quest.
- Talk to one of the event starters in the 3 nations.
- You must wear a Witch Hat (see above) to get the quest.
- After accepting, trade sweets to a costumed NPC (looks like a monster) until you receive a monster costume.

Trading Sweets
Food / Meals / Sweets
Obtaining Normal Quality Items
The following 4 normal quality items can be obtained at random by trading sweets to a non-roaming, costumed NPC. The quickest way to get all four of these items is to buy 4-6 stacks of any sweet, put them all at the top of your item list, and trade them one by one to a single costumed NPC.
Obtaining High Quality Items
The following 4 high quality items can be obtained at random by trading sweets to a costumed NPC while you are wearing the corresponding normal quality event gear. If you are wearing a Pumpkin Head/Pumpkin Head II and a Trick Staff/Trick Staff II, you will get the Horror Head/Horror Head II first. This theory has been disproven.
I did research on forums and found to get these items, you must wear a corresponding item and nothing else:
- Treat Staff = Trick Staff
- Treat Staff II = Trick Staff II
- Horror Head = Pumpkin Head
- Horror Head II = Pumpkin Head II
So far I have tested the theory of getting complete naked and wearing a Trick Staff II and I received the Treat Staff II and wearing the Pumpkin Head and getting the Horror Head. Will be testing the others as the day goes on.
NPCs that give Costumes
CAUTION! You can only trade a particular type of sweet for a costume to any NPC each Vana'diel day. Otherwise, they will just say "Thank you...", and take the sweet you traded.

Event Item Storer
Note: The new event items Witch Hat and Coven Hat are not eligible for immediate storage with NPC.
CAUTION! DO NOT turn in items to NPC storage during the event. Due to a programming bug, you will be able to receive Rare/Ex items that you already have in NPC storage. Also may want to remove any items you got from last year(s)'s Harvest Festival event. Or if you want to try to refill a partly used Trick Staff II staff drop the old one.
