Prerequisites
A common mistake for new players that have reached this level is the absence of their Expansion Registrations. If you've made it this far, be sure to check the Content ID section in the FFXI menu within the Playonline Viewer; the menu that you see before you click the first "Play" button to launch the game into full-screen. Be sure that you see Rise of the Zilart and, if applicable, your Chains of Promathia, Treasures of Aht Urhgan, and Wings of the Goddess expansions in the list of registered Expanded Services. Guddal will not respond to you if you attempt to trade the keys prior to registering the Rise of the Zilart expansion.
Walkthrough
- You have 2 options when you first talk to him, pay 148,000g or do a quest.
- The quest requires you to collect a Giddeus Chest Key, Ghelsba Chest Key, and Palborough Chest Key.
- Giddeus Chest Key drops from Yagudo Priest, Yagudo Votary, and Yagudo Theologist in Giddeus.
- Ghelsba Chest Key drops from Orcish Fighter, Orcish Serjeant, and Orcish Cursemaker in Yughott Grotto or Fort Ghelsba.
- Palborough Chest Key drops from Old Quadav, Brass Quadav, Copper Quadav, Mine Scorpion and Scimitar Scorpion in Palborough Mines.
- Once all three chest keys are obtained, trade them to Guddal for the key item.
Location
- Giddeus: Stay to the right and make your way to the cave at (G-7). Head left after you enter and drop down the hole concealed by bramble. Walk outside the tunnel and follow the path all the way to the bottom of the map, taking care to not fall down. The very last room contains all of the chest key mobs.
- Ghelsba Outpost: Hang left after you enter and zone into Yughott Grotto. Move forward into the largest room which contains the mobs.
- Palborough Mines: Take the elevator at (I-8) to the third floor and make your way to the area just before Waughroon Shrine. The mobs spawn after the river around (H-9), in the four rooms and the path leading up to the zone.
Note
- You can solo each key at level 25 having a Warrior, Monk, or any Damage Dealer job. Soloing at 25 has a downfall, which means you have to find a safe area first. They will aggro you and shouldn't try battling with links. Each mob you battle for the key will consume most of your HP. Last is traveling place to place by running and riding chocobos without a level 36 White Mage meaning your time may take a toll, in other words it will take you longer to finish.
- A mage job soloing is more difficult or likely death.
- White Mage - lack the damage but have healing magic which is slow battles.
- Black Mage - lack the defense and healing magic but have magic damage.
- It is possible to attain each key as a Red Mage around level 30 solo with White Mage/Black Mage subjobs.
- A mage job soloing is more difficult or likely death.
- Best way to collect these keys safely is bringing a level 40-75 friend or bring more 25s along who need the keys too.
~25 RDM/WAR can solo keys pretty easy if they know how to play it safe... I did this at 25 level because I was new and wanted to solo everything... only had help in Giddeus (from 30ish rdm) because he was bored. Know your zones and take care for links and enemies are no prob.
Best way to collect keys is to have a WHM to teleport you, makes it a lot quicker. Also if you can have a THF in party, especially Palborough Mines. This is the worse drop of all three.
