Glad they find time to release an entirely new game yet still haven't finished the product they've taken people's money for.

The point of FFXI it that its an ongoing, ever-changing story that could possibly have no end. So I don't see an issue, except that instead of a new MMORPG than why not just another expansion.

I see much more potential for a fresh MMO myself. It's always fun to enter a new "world" anyway.

Call me paranoid but why is it only being released for PC and PS3? Why not the 360 as well, like FFXI is available on? A desperate plea to sell a system that's been out on the market for quite awhile now and is still more than my rent? Could it be?  :O

A new MMO is definitely better than just another expansion for FFXI...I'm sure I speak for many when I say that I miss the feeling we all had when FFXI first released in NA, when we were all on the same page: we were all 'newbies', we were all bewildered by a grand, new game, and we all needed help doing even the most simplest of quests/missions. A new MMO would definitely bring back that feeling.

The technology base for FFXI is close to 10 years old. However much we like the game, that is ancient in computing terms and SE probably hit the limits of what it can do with it. It's time to move on. I'm looking forward to FFXIV, and to seeing what SE has learned.

I agree with what most people said. I've been playing FFXI since July '04 and as much as I've loved playing it, I feel less and less motivated to do anything on it anymore. I'm glad they're finally releasing a new FF MMO. Kinda gives me that same feeling of excitement and anticipation I had back when I started FFXI. I'm anxious to see what differences and similarities FFXIV will have in comparison to FFXI. So far I've liked what I've heard about it though and I hope it lives up to players expectations.

I personally can't wait for FFXIV to come out. Like McGoonagle said the game is becoming ancient in computing terms and it will be interesting to see what SE has learned. Also, the idea of being a pioneer in a new game is very intriguing to me. I'm excited about being able to help form/mold a wiki for future players the way others in the past have done for me. <See you again> in FFXIV :)

I do however miss when everyone wandered around aimlessly, made mistakes together and laughed about it, discovered new adventures, and had fun. Don't get me wrong, I still have fun in FFXI, but I think a new game would be nice. We can only play it to find out.

Yeah, chances are it WILL be on 360, and if not the 360, then the next Microsoft console (which is probably not that far off now). I highly doubt that any game released on the PS3 could not also be released on the 360 (with some tweaking) as the technological/performance gap isn't as big as many believe. By the time the PS3 reaches limits the 360 can't compete with, M$ will have another console in the shops.

if it is available for windows i belive its most likely a strait port to 360 with maybe a tuning down of the graphix that all us ps3/pc users wont have to suffer with. owning a ps3 and a pc i'm not to botherd.

will they have FFXIV and FFXI running at the same time? i dont want to lose all of my mates and everything because most of them are not moving on to FFXIV.

I recall my first steps in FFXI. I miss the freshness of the game, not knowing where things are, and seeing things for the first time. The first time I ventured to "the dunes". It is all old now and I never want to see "the dunes" again. lol I cannot wait for FFXIV and to see a whole new world.

Honestly, I'm worried about having to buy a new graphics card to keep up with PS3 graphics.

What some of you are failing to realize is that it's not the specs of the 360 hardware that are causing problems. It's the fact that MS's servers are very strict with connections to other computers (P2P). Microsoft wants the game to be compatible with Xbox Live, and wants a share of the monthly fees from SE. SE wants the game to be independent of Xbox Live, and is currently unwilling to rewrite their software to account for the strict rules.

all thats fine and dandy, but what im hearin from some messed- up source is that u have to be invited to play the beta, can some1 plz give some info on this subject plz... cuz id rly like to know how to get my hands on the beta!

Graphics and new technology is a must in new games today. somethign i want to see more on is the battle system the battle system for FFXI is great and all but no ps3 game that i've played has really impressed me besides COD4 and Socom after a billion patches XD but yeah Gameplay will be interesting but with the PS3 power and SE combining im sure they will out do everything and for all you guys who are saying why not add an expansion i agree with you except some people like me and others like to start from the beg. of a game and try to be the best if you catch my drift but yeah im just anxious on the game itself thanks SE for bring PS3 to its potential and raising the bar

"I miss the freshness blah blah blah.... You know, I have thought alot about it and i am not sure I want to move on. I have met ALOT of ppl in my six almost seven yrs in game. And most of them, just like me waited a long long time to be able to have that first lvl 75 job. took me almost 5 yrs with work and family and such always pulling me away from leveling. Do I want to put myself through all that struggling and waiting and all those years of hard ass work again?Am I willing to start from absolutely nothing now that I have finally attained real power and tasted the fruits of end game? and for what? a game that will be very much the same as the one we are leaving behind. aside from the fact that i am very dissapionted with the way ffxi looks on a high def screen I see no reason to throw away everything and start from scratch.... It better be worth it.

I cant wait to see this game. It will be fun to be one of the first to get it and start all over agan. This game looks different the FFXI and should be just as fun if not better to play. Its all ways nice to have another FF game to play. XD
