Notes:

  • Lottery Spawn around J-5 to H-6, from the Walking Sapling around that area. (I seriously do not think this is correct, see below).
  • Can spawn anywhere from 15 minutes to 6 hours reportedly. This NM is likely a true lottery, meaning killing PH will have chance of NM pop. 6 hours no pop is likely due to player does not know which sapling is PH therefore just blindly go around killing any sapling they see, but may have missed the actual PH due to area of J-5 to H-6 is too big. I would suggest use of Wide Scan, and if that is not available. Go kill Walking Sapling in I-6 and near it. Remember the group of saplings that the PH is in is a group of 5. (see below)
  • Advised to kill every Walking Saplings in the area for fastest spawning. Don't do this unless you have no wide scan.
  • If you have Wide Scan III from RNG20 or BST40 either through main job or sub job, standing in the middle of I-5 & J-5 you will see in the wide scan list 4 sets of Walking Sapling (you may see 1-2 sapling EAST of first set but ignore those). First set of 5 saplings are around I-6, second set of 5 around I-5 & J-5, third set of 2 around J-6 & K-6, and fourth set of 6 saplings around I-4 & J-4. The actual Place Holder for the NM is in the FIRST set of saplings (the group located around I-6). I don't know how far can NM wander off from I-6, but my pop spawn @ NE of I-6 grid. The NM actually shows up in place of the last sapling in the set of 5, so my guess is the last sapling in that first set of 5 is the PH, but there are cases that PH and NM does not appear in the same position in wide scan list, so just kill all 5 and the NM will pop soon.
  • Soloable by most jobs 12+. (see testimonials)
  • Nyzul Isle: The Armoury Crate it leaves behind contains an ??? Earring, which may rarely appraise into an Optical Earring.

Historical Background

Maighdean Uaine is from Scottish folklore. It means "green maiden" in Scottish Gaelic (maighdean "maiden" + uaine "green"). The more common name for her is the Green Lady or Glaistig Uaine. In many accounts, specifically Scottish Highlands accounts, the Green Lady is considered a woman garbed in a green dress who is a frightful portent of death, similar to the Irish Banshee. However, the account this NM seems to draw from is the Green Lady of Caerphilly. In Welsh folklore, she is a spirit who inhabits a ruined castle (Caerphilly Castle). She is said to be hiding in the ivy or has transformed into ivy, intermingling with the natural ivy on the walls. This version is not viewed as a death portent. It seems Square-Enix took the name Green Lady and translated it to its cognate in Scottish and figured ivy is close to a Sapling-type monster.
