Category:Campaign Operations
Campaign Ops is the collective term of missions able to be accessed via use of "Op Credits" in the Wings of the Goddess Home Cities. This page will obviously be a work in progress for some time until more is known about this new system.
What Are Campaign Operations?
According to the Bastok NPC Aurelius:
"Campaign operations, also known as Campaign Ops, is the term used for the long list of small-scale missions authorized by the Allied War Council in Jeuno. When an operation is successfully completed, the nation is rewarded with an increase in battle funding, paid for by the Repositorium--an international bank founded by the four nations of Mindartia and Quon, and located in Jeuno. To put it bluntly, the harder you work, the richer the Republic becomes. Now don't get the wrong idea. That money is for the Republican Legion, not for you to spend at the local pub. No, you'll be rewarded with Allied Notes, which can be used to purchase supplies and equipment. You'll also be allowed to participate in more sensitive operations."
Requirements
- In order to participate, you must first join the army of one of the three nations, accessed via the Wings of the Goddess expansion pack.
- You need to complete the initial quest listed on this page for the nation of your choice. It is not necessary to join the same nation as your current allegiance in the present time.
- For Bastok: The Fighting Fourth
- For San d'Oria: Steamed Rams
- For Windurst: Snake on the Plains
- In order to participate in Campaign Ops, you must possess Op Credits. You are issued 1 upon completion of the above quests, and the NPC states: "Every soldier receives one Op Credit every morning."
- You can have up to seven Op Credits at one time, with one credit issued every 24 hours. A timer now informs you upon speaking to the NPC who assigns Op Credits of how many hours until the new one you receive.
- It is important to talk to a NPC who can evaluate your performance, as Medals only last for 30 days. Better medals unlock better rewarding missions and your vote on the nation's course the next week will count more.
Signing Up
Campaign Ops are quest missions much in the same vein as the rank missions you did for your individual nation in the present. These special operations include resource procurement, supply transport, security, supply manufacture, offensive operations, defensive operations, intel gathering, and military training. Campaign Ops require items called Op Credits. Similar to Imperial I.D tags, they are necessary to apply for these missions.
Op Credits are items needed to perform various Campaign Ops in the Wings of the Goddess Expansion areas.
1 Op Credit is required to do the operations available in all 3 past nations. 1 credit is gained automatically every 24 Earth hours after completion of the first quest needed to sign on to a specific nation. The maximum number of Op Credits you may possess is 7. You may save your Op Credits for future missions. Some missions require more than one Op Credit to start.
Once an Op Credit is used it can't be refunded. If you fail a mission the Op Credit(s) you used will be lost and you will have to start the mission again provided you have enough Op Credits. Once a mission is accepted your Op Credit is used. You may not abandon a mission and receive a refund of your Op Credit, so choose wisely when accepting a mission.
Campaign Ops are started from one of the following NPCs, depending on which nation you have signed on with:
- Hieronymus - Bastok Markets (S) (E-8)
- Rasdinice - Southern San d'Oria (S) (I-9)
- Emhi Tchaoryo - Windurst Waters (S) (H-9)
Most of the Operations are similar for each nation, but typically at different locations. It is not yet known whether any nation-specific ops exist.
Unlike Assault, it is not necessary for other party members to sign up for a Campaign Op to assist you. If they do not, they will still receive the Experience Points award, but they will not receive any Allied Notes. Unless otherwise noted, it is not necessary to repeat a Campaign Op multiple times to complete it for each party member who has signed up for it.
Rewards
- A successful Campaign Op will result in a number of Allied Notes and Experience Points being given. Experience Points for an Operation are rewarded only for adventurers level 10 and higher. If you do an operation at a lower level, you will get Allied Notes, but no Experience Points.
- All Campaign Ops have a Star (★) rating to display how needed the Operation is by your nation. The less needed Operations will give less Experience Points and Allied Notes, while the more needed Operations reward more.
- Hidden under the Star rating is a finer rating that will determine the actual Experience Points and Allied Notes given. This rating decreases with each completion of the OP by any player, thus if one keeps doing the same OP, the reward will be less on each subsequent completion of the OP.
- The reward appears to be based on a Total XP = Base XP Reward + (Bonus Reward * Demand Value) formula. Please see Category talk:Campaign Operations for more information and discussion.

Who Heads Your Country?
There are adventurers who hail from the Republic of Bastok, the Kingdom of San d'Oria, and the Federation of Windurst. But how much do they know about their own countries? I asked a number of adventurers passing through Jeuno to answer a simple question.
Question : Who leads your country?
Correct Answers:
- Bastok / President Karst
- San d'Oria / King Destin
- Windurst / The Star Sibyl
Do you know who leads your country?
- Yes - 10% / No - 90%
The results were surprising; only a scant 10% of the adventurers I spoke to could name the leader of their own country. In fact, nobody could name Bastok's President Karst.
In the end, it turned out that Windurstians, who are led by the Star Sibyl, were most able to identify their leader.
"The Star Sibyl. But I'm afraid I don't know who leads the other countries," said a Tarutaru woman from Bastok. In fact, the Star Sibyl was known even by citizens of other countries. There are several possible reasons for this, but the largest factor is that "Star Sibyl" is her name as well as her title.
"I don't know. Hmm. Does Bastok have a president?" replied a Hume woman from Windurst.
"I'm afraid I don't know. Other countries? I certainly don't know that," said a Hume man, also from Windurst.
Setting aside people who had no interest in government and politics, most adventurers knew that Bastok had a president, but none could name him.
On the other hand, the survey did reveal that many people knew the names of important people who were not their national leaders.
"I know the names of both princes. Huh? The King? I don't know," said a Galka from San d'Oria.
"Well, I could tell you all about Ayame of the Mythril Musketeers," said a Galka from Bastok.
The names of San d'Oria's Prince Trion and the Mythril Musketeer Ayame were on the tips of everyone's tongues; these people in particular have a lot of contact with adventurers. The adventurers queried seemed to feel a stronger bond with those whom they had actually met.
To adventurers who chafe at the restraint of national allegiance, the name of their national leader was of little importance. Evidently, those who are worth remembering are those who take action.
Nonetheless, it's difficult to find anything positive to say about the fact that such a small percentage of adventurers know their own national leader. The reality is that it reflects a deeper problem. The most skilled adventurers often leave their home countries to stay in Jeuno.
For the adventurers constantly passing through the Jeuno region, talk of home feels as if it is of some distant and foreign land.
But the three countries have shifted the burdens of law and order and national defense to adventurers. The loss of adventurers therefore poses a threat to the wellbeing of the countries.
We must also not forget that Jeuno owes its greatness to the strength of the other three countries.
The governments of the different countries should be looking to increase their presence in the hearts of their many adventurers.

Note from the Lead Editor
|
Annual traditions are nice. So, with the end of 2008 before us it is again time for a wiki year-in-review. It was a year of significant improvements to the wiki. Of note were major overhauls of zones and bestiary family pages. These changes enabled us to add a lot of information without adding a lot of unnecessary space. We also overhauled the main page with new tabs. Mediawiki provides some huge benefits (such as the wiki aspects), but can be difficult to work with when trying to perform some of the more advanced functions (java functions). We're continuing to work on optimizing pages and layouts and are hoping to be able to make some nice overhauls in 2009. It was a year for growth as well - albeit different than last year. While the number of page views, visits and unique users were slightly lower than 2007 (-10%), the average time on the site more than doubled, from an average of just over 13 minutes in 2007 to more than 28 minutes in 2008 (+115% - and no this was not due to a Fan Fest Live Blog spike). Article count increased (+30%), which is always nice, but admittedly comes with the territory of a wiki based on an MMO. Database size (words) grew (+46%). Average size of an article also grew, a key metric often overlooked. In short it means our pages have substance to them. A wiki with 20,000 pages listing nothing more than the item name is not very helpful. A wiki where each of those pages tells you everything you ever wanted to know about that item - and more - is what distinguishes a wiki from another. FFXIclopedia excels at this task. Also important is that the number of editors continues to increase. This is what keeps FFXIclopedia strong. Every edit counts - whether it be one or a hundred. But to our hundreds of editors out there - thank you! And for those who have not yet taken the plunge into wiki editing - its easy - now is a great time to start and help out this resource we all rely upon so much. FFXIclopedia was started four years ago now and has aged pretty well. We've kept up with content put out by Square Enix, managed to introduce new content on the wiki and scale with the size of the wiki and users. We have a few new things planned for 2009 if all goes well - but what's comforting is that even if we just continue to plow ahead, we'll still have the best FFXI website out there. --GAHOO t/ c 19:11, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

History
FFXIclopedia was the brainchild of Ganiman, a Tarutaru Red Mage, resident of the Phoenix Server and Leader of the linkshell Avengers. The leading FFXI information site at the time, Allakazam, was bogged down with slow load times, poor and out of date information, and a constant stream of intrusive advertisements. Similar problems plagued Somepage, a database site that was full of advertisements for Real-Money Transfer (RMT) groups. Ganiman started a wiki project for Final Fantasy XI using the Mediawiki software in November of 2004 with the name FFXIclopedia – a name suggested by Mierin, a fellow member of Avengers.
At its inception, FFXIclopedia had fewer than five articles. From November 2004 until March 2005, FFXIclopedia saw little progress as the site was not only unknown, but empty. In March 2005 a small group of dedicated users decided to populate FFXIclopedia with information and FFXIclopedia saw its first mini explosion of both users and articles. By the middle of March 2005 there were 850 articles posted on the FFXIclopedia wiki, and by the end of that month, more than 1500. The increase in articles and information led to new users and new contributors, and to almost exponential growth. By the middle of May 2005 there were more 3000 articles and by the middle of June more than 6000 articles. While FFXIclopedia had grown tremendously, much of the basic FFXI information was still being added by only a small group of users.
The second explosion occurred in October 2005 when the FFXIclopedia's Adventuring Fellow Guide was created. This soon became the premiere source of information about this new addition to FFXI and the wiki format shined as new information was constantly emerging – alongside rumors – and the guide was able to keep up with the ever evolving ebb and flow of information. The popularity of the adventuring fellow, and of the guide, led to a major influx of users. Unique visitors to FFXIclopedia, which had been rising steadily, doubled from ~8000 to ~16000 in that month alone.
From that point forward the site grew at an almost out of control rate and by January 2006 there were almost 10,000 articles and 25,000 unique visitors using more than 20GB of bandwidth. The FFXIclopedia was too big to be just an extension of the Avengers website and so a donation drive was held on the wiki to expand it to it's current domain, FFXIclopedia.org. Once on its own domain and server, additional improvements were quickly implemented, including the forums and blog system.
The third explosion of users and information for FFXIclopedia occurred in May of 2006, when Allakhazam officially announced that it has been bought by the same company that owns IGE, a well known RMT group. Fans of Allakhazam expressed their outrage and migrated to FFXIclopedia. While FFXIclopedia had been steadily growing during the first quarter of 2006, May 2006 saw an increase of 20,000 unique visitors to 65,000 and increase of almost 30GB of bandwidth to 75GB.
The exponential growth has continued, with the FFXIclopedia having more than 230,000 unique visitors and using more than 600GB per month in January 2007. In 4th quarter of 2007, wikia.com acquired the FFXIclopedia domains, and has been instrumental in stablizing the backend and providing a number of significant enhancements to the user interface. Growth has continued, and for the 30 days from mid-April to mid-May 2008 the wiki has seen more 420,000 unique visitors pass through.
This tremendous growth is not without bumps in the road. The Mediawiki software allows users to edit what another user has written, and at times such changes can be contentious. Users have debated with passion and sometimes with personal attacks. While debate over the information is not only good, but necessary, personal attacks are not tolerated. Dedicated contributors to the FFXIclopedia wiki have unfortunately stopped contributing due to personal attacks from other users. In addition to these difficulties, copyright issues have been raised concerning the source of information and user contributions to the FFXIclopedia wiki. At the inception of the FFXIclopedia wiki, various copyright issues were arguably unclear, and were challenged by certain contributors who felt that their additions to the FFXIclopedia wiki could not be changed without their permission. Such an interpretation defeats the purpose behind the collaborative nature of the FFXIclopedia wiki – which is intended to allow any user to update the information contained on the site. In March 2005 the FFXIclopedia wiki adopted the GNU Free Documentation License with the intention that all non-copyrighted information posted on the wiki is allowed to be edited, copied and distributed.
