Historical Background

In Mesopotamian mythology, the god of disease and pestilence. He was a minor god of the Underworld (Irkalla, Kigal). He would also act as a messenger and chief minister for Ereshkigal, the queen of the Underworld and Nergal, the king of the Underworld. Namtar has the variant spellings Namtaru, Namtara.
