Historical Background

In Medieval Folklore, the Odontotyrannus (also spelled Odontotyrannos) was a giant beast with three horns which was reported to live in the Ganges River in India. It devoured 26 soldiers of Alexander the Great according to these fictitious accounts and it was so heavy, it took 1300 soldiers to drag its body. Odontotyrannus means "tooth-tyrant" in Greek.
