Historical Background

Generally the term "raptor" is for the classification of large birds of prey such as eagles, vultures, hawks etc. Raptor is also a genus of saurian that existed during the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaeceous period. This is where the name applies due to the in game monster closely resembling its dinosaur namesake. Oddly enough there was no dinosaur simply called raptor, the term was placed at the end of the name as seen in Velociraptor.
