From FFXIclopedia, the free Final Fantasy XI encyclopedia

Job Ability

  • Allows you to counterattack but reduces movement speed.
  • Obtained: Warrior Level 60
  • Recast Time: 3:00
  • Duration: 3:00
  • Distance: Self

Notes/Description

  • Will only activate if a hit is taken. Effects such as Utsusemi: Ichi, Utsusemi: Ni, or Blink must be exhausted before Retaliation will take effect.
  • You are still able to retaliate even if you are hit for 0 damage. Includes effects such as Stoneskin.
  • Currently unknown what, if anything, can alter the activation rate. The base rate seems to be 40-50% Verification Needed, modified by Accuracy, so about 47.5% with capped accuracy.
  • Like Counter, you can retaliate against any attack directed at your front arc, even from mobs with which you are not engaged, so long as your weapon is drawn.
  • Unlike Counter, you will still take damage with Retaliation.
  • Like Counter, Retaliation depends on Accuracy; Only retaliations that would hit show up in the log.
  • You gain TP from retaliating.
  • You gain TP from taking damage while retaliating.
  • You can gain weapon skill ups from Retaliation attacks.
  • Appears to have similar movement decrease as one "Dusk" equipment (e.g. Dusk Gloves).
  • You can perform a critical hit on a retaliation. Although, it will not show a critical hit animation (tested with Mighty Strikes).
  • Additional effects such as HP drain from Drain Samba do not occur on retaliation.
  • Will only generate 1 attack per hit taken. Double Attack & Triple Attack will not occur on retaliation.
  • Will not retaliate Weapon Skill or Ranged Attack.
  • Can simultaneously retaliate multiple attacks from Double Attack, Dual Wield, Hand-to-Hand, or Triple Attack at the same round of attack, generating multiple retaliated attacks within 1 attack round.

Macro Syntax
