Historical Background[]
The Shoggoth was a fictional abomination created by the pulp horror novelist H.P. Lovecraft, featured in his sonnet Fungi from Yuggoth and his novel At the Mountains of Madness, and later in The Shadow over Innsmouth and The Thing on the Doorstep. Created by the Elder Things, Shoggoths were a sort of biological weapon/servant which eventually evolved sentience and rebelled against their creators, causing the decline of the Elder Things' civilization on prehistoric Earth. The immense, amorphous, tar-like Shoggoth had numerous eyes across its surface and is very similar in concept to the Final Fantasy Hecteyes creature.
