Notes:
- Sprites will cast white magic on nearby players; spells such as Cure III, Cure IV, Cure V, and Raise III (depending on player's condition). They will have a cooldown period after healing a player before healing another.
- Will cast Cure on a player even if engaged fighting the Sprite.
- Sprites' Raise III is more powerful than the player version. It will restore a KO'd player with maximum weakened HP and restores all EXP lost.
- Sprites take 37.5% normal damage.
- Sprites will also cast Haste, Aquaveil, Blink, Protect II, Shell II, Stoneskin and Regen III on themselves.
- Possible shared hate, similar to that of Tonberries. However too much Sprite hate will result in them not healing nor raising you.
- Hate is accumulated by attacking and/or killing Sprites.
- Highly resistant to Silence. (Probably Immune) (Tried by an RDM70/WHM35 with Enfeebling Magic Capped).
- Sprites have been spotted in the present in outdoor zones around Jeuno and San d'Oria. Levels and conditions for their appearance have not been determined. It seems that the fact they spawn in the present is due to players bringing Bottled Pixies to Witchfire Glen in Grauberg (S).
Historical Background
In European folklore, a sprite is a diminutive spirit-like or elfin creature (a small humanoid being with magical powers and properties), often considered an analogue of a fairy. The word sprite is often used generically to refer to all diminutive spirit folk and has an association with spirit beings affiliated with the water element.
Sprite is derived from the Latin word spiritus (“spirit”) and was first used sometime in the 13th century CE. Spriggan is an etymological variant of Sprite.
Sprite is also the word for a type of upper-atmosphere lightning, specifically lingering reddish flashes (also called red sprites) first discovered in July 1989, occurring during thunderstorms above the cloudtops. Sprite has also been used to refer to moving pixels in computer-generated graphics (particularly video games).
