History in the FF Series

Sylph was a Summon which appeared in Final Fantasy IV & V. They would drain HP from a single enemy and distribute it to the party. They were depicted as a set of either 2 (FFV) or 3 (FFIV) small fairies with blonde (FFIV) or pink (FFIV) hair, pointed ears (FFV), wearing green clothing and a green hair ribbon (FFIV, V). They had either 2 insect wings (FFIV) or 4 insect wings, like a butterfly (FFV). Their energy transfer appeared with either green energy (FFIV) or pink energy (FFV). Sylph, with her name spelled as Silf, was also a Summon in Final Fantasy Tactics. There, Silf appeared as an elven looking woman with pointed ears, black hair, and a red outfit. She would inflict Silence status on all enemies, the signature move of Siren.

  • In FFIV, Sylph was a Summon who was acquired in the Sylvan Cave in a remote corner of the Underground. Three Sylphs lived in a cabin deep in the monster-filled cave. They fould a deeply injured Yang, who had intended to sacrifice himself to destroy the Super Cannon that imperiled the Kingdom of Dwarves in the Tower of Bab-il. They eventually nursed him back to health, but offered their services to Rydia.
  • In FFV, Sylph could be purchased at a magic shop in the town of Worus (World One) or the Mirage Village (the reunited world, World Three) for 350 Gil. They were classified as Level 1 Summon Magic.
