I crafted four of these and shared them with friends while testing them myself. Regardless of what jobs we were on, the day, or the moon, the numbers were all consistently between 30 and 40, with most falling clearly in the 35-38 range. Of course, if one has less than the full amount, they'll be restored to full and the difference is reported as the amount restored.

Four hats is admittedly a small number in the grand scheme of things (only 120 full trials!) but the numbers have all been uniform, so I've updated the page accordingly. Sethimothy 15:24, October 9, 2009 (UTC)
