Boss Battle Bash was a Live Event first held in Square Enix's area during the 2005 Electronic Entertainment Expo. Players formed named teams of six people, each choosing their preferred Jobs at the site (matched to a set of premade characters at specific levels, depending on the fight). If multiple teams had signed up for the same battle, the team to fight the boss was chosen by lottery or prompt answer of a trivia question. The chosen team was then given a time limit of 20 minutes to fight their boss. Prizes of successive value were given to each member of a team to win a battle.
Boss battles available in the event, in chronological order, were as follows:
- Time Bomb with Level 50 characters
- Simulant with Level 30 characters
- Playing Host with Level 30 characters
- Osschaart with Level 75 characters
- Evil Oscar with Level 75 characters
- Ouryu (possibly from The Savage) with Level 45 characters
- "???", actually Tenzen (possibly from The Warrior's Path) with Level 70 characters
Note that in the cases of Ouryu and Tenzen, the levels used for each set of characters were artificially stunted by five—possibly to increase the difficulty of the event past the point of the final two prizes ever being obtainable, though this is conjecture.
