Both screenshots used a Lv.1 DarkSpirit (from Lv.1 SMN sub.) In the second screenshot, DarkSpirit was directly in front of me, and got OHKO'd from full health. As far as I know, Wing Cutter is only a cone attack, not a breath attack.

Hecatomb Wave exhibits the same behavior.
