According to http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/jobs.html?fjob=1;mid=117212431515812660;num=18;page=1, the target's DEF is further reduced, at least in ballista. The test from that thread reads:

We should attempt to do testing to confirm these results and further quantify the effect that may or may not be present when casting on mobs. But the assertion that there is no effect on DEF down is certainly in question, so I've edited the article to indicate that it is undetermined. --VxSote 16:29, 28 June 2007 (CDT)
- Well... in the higher-DEF case, Dia I goes from 27/ to 39/ (+12), and Dia II goes from 53/ to 66/ (+13) (I'm being lazy here and omitting the 512s in denominators); in the lower-DEF case, the changes are 27/ to 45/ (+18) and 53/ to 75/ (+22). The problem is that you can't fit a flat increase to it instead of a percentage increase either. I'm thinking the additional defense reduction is done prior to the 27/ or 53/ reduction - it looks like -5 and -7 DEF respectively. --Mdenham 01:12, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
