Talk:Distortion

From FFXIclopedia, the free Final Fantasy XI encyclopedia

While some of that might be true, take note in this:

Ice, is also the element associated with INT, and generally also as a result, Casting damage.

This plays into the game in the form of certain pieces of gear making ice stronger, that is relatively easy to obtain.

Primarily, Ice staff.

Leveling up as a blm, you generally have one major limiting factor. Magic skill level. Resists are abundant as, though true on some mobs, NOT ALL MOBS are weak to ice. That is a popular myth started by people who cannot do abilities other than distortion. Mobs seem generally weak to almost all magic. The only reasons Ice is still perfered in the later levels is 1) lazyness, 2) ease of creating distortion with popular party setups, and 3) the big one, Ice staff.

Ice staff is cheap, easy to get, and helps ice magic all around

Its got INT for more dmg.

Its got resistance down from elemental skill up on it.

Its got 10 or so percent damage boost for ice magic, just from being the elemental staff associated with Ice.

End game blm's are all about "thunder".

Myself, I'm a lazy freakin blm - so I'm still all about ICE, as it doesnt take a lot of work to make ice damage do decent dps output.

Just take note that that one staff, is almost surely the reason behind distortions popularity post 51. Pre 51, its party config setups and lack of familiarity with Renkai and different "out of the norm" choice of weapons due to skill levels playing a major role in hitting the enemy, and things like "rampage" being the only real choice for top damage output from an axe user. --Fujilives 00:30, 25 September 2006 (EDT)

Fusion is pretty popular too, mainly because people seem to not acknowledge the existance of Fragmentation and Gravitation. --Chrisjander 01:49, 25 September 2006 (EDT)
