Talk:Evasion
From FFXIclopedia, the free Final Fantasy XI encyclopedia
Do we know how to calculate one's exact Evasion value? Obviously the minimum EVA would be half your AGI plus all your EVA boosts from gear, but where does the skill come in, is it also like AGI, such that 2 EVA Skill = 1 EVA?
Eva skill helps alot more then +evasion on gear. from what i know 2 agi = 1 evasion skill. so if you have 100 evasion skill and armor that gives you +10 agi. you would have 105 evasion skill.
Evasion skill is more important (helps you evade) more then +evasion. so somone with 105 evasion skill. will evade more then somone with 100 evasion skill with +5 evasion in gear. Ferine 22:02, 17 August 2006 (EDT)
- Is there testing that confirms this? Most +evasion gear actually raises your evasion skill under the combat skills menu. Apelila 02:08, 2 August 2007 (CDT)
- Only gear that specifically says "Evasion skill+X" raises evasion skill under the combat skills menu. Most evasion gear just says "Evasion+X" and does NOT raise your evasion skill on the combat skills menu. I have heard, like Ferine said, that evasion skill+ is more effective than just evasion+, but I've not heard any numbers or seen any tests. --Kyrie 10:38, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Is that ability to sort tables by column new? Lol Tahngarthor
Yes, made possible during the last update. --◄Chrisjander► t/ c 00:29, 28 May 2007 (CDT)
Some gear grants Evasion Skill (example: Evasion Earring) while some grants Evasion (example: Dodge Earring). My understanding is that both have the same effect on a character's ability to evade. However, they are distinct in that one (Evasion Skill) increases the visible number listed under a character's Combat Skills while the other (Evasion) does not. This is implied, though perhaps not completely clear, from this article. --Senkilara 17:23, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
For the purpose of skill up, I've been skilling up on Colibri prior to 258. Requiring verification, but it seems I evaded more often while actually engaged than just standing there like the video, Earth Staff equipped. Though a side bonus is an occasional parry when an evasion fails. That is one hit more I can take before having to hit hide.--Delvish.Ind 17:51, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
A rumor I have been hearing from lots of different sources is this 3 EVA = 1 EVA Skill, 2 AGI = 1 EVA Skill. I dont know how true this is or if there's any reliable tests made in the subject. However checking on the auction house all gear that adds EVA skill is alot more expensive than gear that just adds EVA, I'd say the majority of the players agrees on that EVA skill is better than EVA. Not saying I know this is how it is, just something I've heard. If anyone know about any tests that have been done about this, I'd love to know ^^ -~-~Zanno~-~
The issue with that is there's only 2 pieces of evasion skill+ gear, for a total of +10 Evasion skill. And thus it takes a very large number of samples to get an accurate result. Quesela 20:05, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, there's quite a bit of Evasion skill equipment I think you're forgetting. Boxer's gives +10 alone plus some of the WoTG NMs drop a few EVA skill+ pieces as well. Testing is perfectly viable just the process for doing so is ambiguous. --Tira 12:44, 17 December 2008 (PDT)

Checking
The following claim: "When checking a monster, low evasion occurs when your accuracy is twenty or greater than the monster's evasion. High evasion occurs when your accuracy is twenty lower or less than that compared the monsters evasion. Within plus or minus 19 accuracy, neither will show."
Contradicts the entries in Check: "When checking a monster, low evasion occurs when attacker accuracy is 10 points higher than the monster's evasion or higher. High evasion occurs when your accuracy is 31 points below the monster's evasion or lower. More precisely, from the point that a mob just stops checking high evasion, adding +40 more accuracy will make it check low evasion."
And in Accuracy: (A copy of the statement from Check).
Given that they can't both be right, it should either be changed to match what is stated in Check and Accuracy, OR it should be verified to be true and have Check and Accuracy corrected. -- Trahern 13:52, 22 August 2007 (CDT)
Evasion+ gear vs. Evasion skill+ gear
SHouldn't Evasion and Evasion skill -enhancing abilities be in separate sections? Or do both apply in the same part of the evasion calculation? --Volkai 06:13, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
I have removed all items that give just evasion for two reasons. The first is the same reason we do not list items that give Accuracy. We list items that increase specific skills on the weapons category pages like Faith Torque and Headsman's Ring, but not something like Optical Hat or Venerer Ring. Second, the sheer magnitude of armor and weapons with evasion. Judging from the number of pages that link here, we'd have to list over 500 pieces of equipment.--Ahkvan 18:08, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
- I've removed the list again under the same reason, with over 100 entries it's not feasable to use as a way of deciding which pieces are approporate, perhaps if it was like the Attack page with their stats and descriptions fleshed out it would be potentially useful, but as-is with checkboxes it's just a very long list without any real useful knowledge. Even if it were like the Attack page and had their stats fleshed out it's still inordinately long and you'd more than likely be better off just checking the master equipment list and checking for your specific job(s) (firefox has a 'highlight all' function and i assume the other browsers have similar functionality). This also removes the burden of having to maintain yet another list that is very hard to update (although it would be unlikely that SE would give us any new equipment beyond the current evasion +/- range. The longer the list gets the more entries would have to be updated just to keep it functional with a check-box type list --Themanii 07:20, September 14, 2009 (UTC)
Additionally, Agility directly influences evasion, therefore any list of items raising evasion would have to include AGI boosting equipment. --Ahkvan 23:26, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
Equipment with Evasion + vs Evasion Skill +
I'm trying to find a list of equipment that has either evasion + or evasion skill +. The problem is I can only find a list for evasion skill+. It seems unlikely that this has been overlooked but I can't find it anywhere and thought to point it out. --Verran42 16:22, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Capping Evasion on Thief
A great place I found to cap evasion on thief is in Meriphauted Mountains [S]. There is a lone Yagudo Sentinel(mnk) at H-6 that gives nice, quick skillups and once your HP gets low, you can Hide. You can also steal platinum coins while doing this, a definite plus. --Eiryn 16:43, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
