Talk:Fighter's Roll

From FFXIclopedia, the free Final Fantasy XI encyclopedia

Grants it?

Hearing a rumor that this roll also Gives Double-Attack to those in the party who do not get it inherently, is that correct?

It boosts Double Attack percentage, which for most jobs is 0%. So when this roll is active, their percentage can go up slightly for a small chance at double attacking. Warriors and those with sub Warrior 25+ will notice the boost from this roll more than those without the Double Attack trait. --Chrisjander 03:35, 17 July 2006 (EDT)

Considering that the actual Double Attack trait is a 10% chance of Double Attack, the boost this roll gives is pretty huge (especially with a WAR in the PT). In a recent PT as BLU/NIN, I was getting Fighter's Roll with a WAR in the PT, and was getting double attacks almost more often than not. I do have a Brutal Earring too though, which is +5%. This roll should *always* be used on the melees from the time COR gets it, I think. --Kyrial 19:11, 9 April 2007 (EDT)

Correct

the moment you get this roll it is instantly the most powerful melee roll you will get. Consider the effect it would have over 100 swings, if you roll an 8 (fairly common decent roll) with a war in party you gain 13% or 13 swings per hundred, so for a melee job that doesnt have double attack, they just gained approximately 13 swings in the time it would normally take them to get 100. This is the only time a cor buff will give you PURE output. Motley

However, only useful when WAR is in the party

Since the major patch to Phantom Roll last year, this Roll is now supposed to have fallen in potency. Both Fighter's and Rogue's Roll have reportedly had a 2-4% decrease across the board in potency, averaging around +6-7% extra DA/Crit without the respective jobs, and +10%~ with - making it quite hard to get a decent roll value. Lucky V is reportedly 10%/15%; XI being 15%/20%. Source: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/jobs.html?fjob=17;mid=1203457766158375084;num=22;page=1

This roll is now probably one of the most over-used considering the available alternatives, and should really only be used when WAR is in the party, and even then, depending on the setup. Samurai Roll since the update however, is uber-powerful even without SAM. While yes it's only empty TP gain, it's still a huge bonus for jobs whose WS damage generally outweighs their regular DoT. –EddGilgamesh 01:45, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
