Talk:How-To Guide: Thief

From FFXIclopedia, the free Final Fantasy XI encyclopedia

Posted shortly after my HTG: Red Mage since I had this one almost completely done by the time I went and posted it. This is currently my longest-played job, and I feel with all you other Thieves out there who have been let-down by people who refuse to learn how to play. I don't mind beginners, but something dies a little inside when a Lv.60 Thief asks you what S.A.T.A. stands for. Also, I know you guys are with the general populace, so you are probably going to dislike my suggestion of Warrior, Ranger, and Samurai as main-party support jobs, but at least read them over and note the plausibility in them. I just don't really like how Ninja is the end-all-be-all support job for Thief, many starting at Lv.20. I've never even so much as lost a shadow in a party, let alone take direct-hit damage. And is Dual Wield really all that useful? I mean, really. Wouldn't Thief benefit more from Meditate, or Widescan, or Berserk? Okay, maybe Warrior isn't that great, but Samurai, really.

I suggest deletion of the above due to having nothing to do with the guide or the actual game itself. --Khundes

Just a note that the "Hide" effect only works against sight-based monsters. If a monster detects by sound or follows by scent, it has no effect. Hide does not remove enmity, it just removes your position information from the monster, so the monster doesn't know you're not behind it; this is why SATA + Hide results in SATA damage without being behind the mob. Adding a byline that the Hide trick only works with sight monsters might be helpful. (And if I am wrong, then so be it, but I have never gotten this trick to work on anything but sight mobs.) --Anobi 00:31, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Hide does shed all enmity. --Lordshadow 00:34, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
