Talk:Mystic Boon
From FFXIclopedia, the free Final Fantasy XI encyclopedia
Finally unlocked this last night, and can't quite figure it out. Current speculation is a full MND modifier, but I'm wondering if there's a STR mod as well. I say that because I tried swapping my Reverend Mail (-5 MND) for Errant (+10 MND, -7 STR)and I'll randomly make the same numbers as my Reverend Mail (Hexa) gear swap. Highest I've been able to do so far is only 300 on Robber Crabs, I barely get 100 on Steelshells. Saw a screenshot of 700~ Mystic Boon on Puks, granted the player had Mjollnir and I don't. --Thundermelon 15:50, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
Little note: Sneak Attack doubles the damage, so a 700 Mystic Boon isn't that surprising... if he didn't use that, then he might be able to do 1400 =P --Murielli 04:12, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
- The WHM was soloing puks, thus Sneak Attacking it definitely wasn't the answer. All testimonials I've come across so far bring up the same numbers (100-200 in standard healing WHM gear, 100-300 in above average Attack WHM gear). Thus I'm guessing the 700 came from on of Mjollnir's "Occasionally does triple damage." --Thundermelon 21:08, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- Could it not have just been a Double Attack proc? Say from a Brutal Earring or something. --Psepha 04:44, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
- It could've been a DA proc, but I've done some DA proc'ing on my own with either Brutal or /WAR sub watching my tp, and the increase of damage was 100 at most. The Mjolnir WHM in the screenshot was constantly attacking the Puk, this assuming the logs are unedited. Haven't messed with Mystic Boon in a while, but lately started getting 300-400 damage. Not quite sure what I changed up. Might just be critical? I'll look into it. --Thundermelon 15:52, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
Doing tests with martial wand and without it at 100% with on both clubs, no noticable difference in damage. From 99~120 on campaign mobs so far. --Akashimo 03:44, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
- Test notes as I take them, 100% darksteel with 67+54 mnd and souleater = 207 damage, while again without souleater and at 67+38mnd for 117 damage. --Akashimo 03:57, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
111 from 67+54mnd no souleater. 140 from 67+38mnd with soul eater. --Akashimo 04:00, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
Also confirmed that adding ATTACK does increase the damage output of this weapon skill, when attack downed by leech, the damage output of this ws significantly decreased, so I went and go /WAR and when defender is on, the ws does a lot less (100-150), while w/ berserk and warcry on, the ws can do 250+, and since I /WAR, the ws also has a chance to double attack, giving a berserk+warcry mystic boon on 100% to give 372 damage. I also did a test on the affect of the club DMG rating on this weapon skill, but the comparing of low DMG to high DMG club has a flaw, so I will not post any finding on that yet, more to come later --Kenshinx 18:53, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
I can attest to what Kenshinx said. It does seem like ATTACK modifies the Mystic Boon significantly. I haven't done enough testing to provide any solid evidence but here are some results I found while I was farming Robber Crabs in Kuftal Tunnel. With my Mystic Boon setup as WHM/WAR, no food, I have:
- 64+13STR ~ 66+4DEX ~ 60VIT ~ 67AGI ~ 58+9INT ~ 65+35MND ~ 59+4CHR ~ 352Attack ~ 336Defense with Protect. Using Perdu Wand
I do about 180 to 220 damage normally (100~%TP). With Beserk at 440 Attack (and Warcry at 459 Attack) Mystic Boon tends to do an average of 430; 429@138%TP and 442@119%TP are the two latest ones in my log. I was sure to not include any Mystic Boon that was affected by STR down, Scissor Guard or Metallic Body into the averages. I don't think MND affects Mystic Boon, but I don't have any conclusive evidence yet. I'll do more testing later; please keep posting findings, it'd nice to find out what the actual Modifiers are~ --Knowiun 10:48, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
Isn't it kind of silly to have "ws is affected by attack" on this page? It's like having "you need mp to cast this spell" on every white magic spell page X_X; Shaddix 14:07, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
No it's not- the user is suggesting that the weapon skill is affected more significantly by Attack than average. It's kind of hard to say though, because it can be hard for a whm to get a lot of attack even if they try. Tahngarthortalk-contribs 09:14, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
Being WHM/NIN with Martial/Perdu in Dynamis-Bastok made me get average 220 dmg return with balanced MND/Acc gear. Full Blessed+Yigit for MND and two acc rings. Occasionally got 100 and 300 depending on miss and DA. Had a duo boxed BRD in PT, damage difference was minimal with double Minuet, talking 210 increasing to 250. /NIN will probably help damage mostly to make another hit with subhand and not to mention faster TP gain. Done the same in campaign, average damage around 250. --Zozma 18:15, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
Uh, what does /NIN offer to increase your WS damage? Tahngarthortalk-contribs 01:52, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
Why does the page say it is affected by attack? All WS are. WHM/WAR can full swing for over 1k with berserk and warcry but it doesn't make the WS more affected than any other. I think WHM just aren't used to seeing damaging WS? You should see the same effect on things like black halo and full swing, especially when whm base attack is so low. Sabareq 22:04, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
I'm really starting to doubt that MND is the modifier at all for Mystic Boon. Given my initial tests and little to no change with mnd gear on. --Akashimo 22:20, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
wait wait i just had to make sure i heard right? whm not use to a dd ws? i dont have this unlocked myself about 61 points away but from what im seeing it is no compare to hexa strike in dmg. i pull 450-800dmg from campian mobs in nobles tunic blessed gear and im always changin the rings i use but just standard 75 whm gear granted im elvaan so my mind is 108+ and str is like 70 (i always use the bullet for campiagn +2str and dex) so to say we are not use to dd ws is outragous because i havent heard ne1 get hexa strikes dmg beside some whm soloing puks. but as for mystic boon i should have it soon and will run test.---- Raubrucian 1-12-09
The point of the WS is that it restores MP, not does the most damage. Tahngarthortalk-contribs 19:42, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
NIN sj offers an additional hit on WS. Which seems to help Boon quite a bit imo (it have low multiplier). On campain I use a combination of boon and hexa, no point in using boon at full mp, and there are plenty of stuff to use MP on as well. Atleast that's what give me most exp. --Zozma 21:35, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
Mystic Boon appears to be a two-hit WS. Frequent usage in Campaign seems to give either a 6% or 12% TP return. Rajas ring equipped. Saphora 03:10, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
That's ninja sub at work- a two hit WS would give 1 tp for each hit after the first. There's no way you could get 12 TP without that. Tahngarthortalk-contribs 01:47, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
Testing+Comments
- I did some testing a while back [1] that (with others' help) I assume contributed to the stats in the article.
- See adjacent pages in that link for more data, or even "see all posts" on me [2]
- Only way I know of to get 2+ hits is ... sub NIN or WAR, or equip Brutal Earring.
- To Saphora: I assume you're /NIN, because other two-hit WS's like Fast Blade give one normal swing's worth of TP, plus 1 TP for the second hit (so you'd be getting sometimes 6%, sometimes 7%, and sometimes 1%) -- also, I think it's usually listed in the game's WS description (two-fold attack).
- As to the crazy-high numbers (700 was it?), I'm 98% sure it was DA. With DA's, I have gotten 700~800 just using Martial/Perdu and Perdu/Kerykeion on TW and EP mobs. Personal best was ~900 on some kinda TW in Altepa. More comparable to Izzy's photo, I have personally gotten ~650 on Lesser Colibri a couple of times, due to DA (so pretty close). However, on those same mobbies, the more common numbers were 300~400.
- For attack, I am skeptical about it being anything more than normal attack calculations, but for all we know, it could have some kinda multiplier like Ground Strike and similar WS's have. If I knew how to test this, I would... >.> Anyone?

Damage Dealt to MP percent
Does it convert 100% of all damage dealt with this WS to MP or a fraction? If so, what percent/fraction of damage? Petco 11:20, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
- It is 100%, just like with Spirit Taker. --Kyrie 21:46, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
STR Modifier
Just did some more testing: [3]
Thanks to the helpful BG regulars, looks like we have a 30% STR modifier! --TheRya 19:59, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
