Talk:Obtaining your Chocobo Whistle
From FFXIclopedia, the free Final Fantasy XI encyclopedia
I have not done this yet. most of this is based off of what i read on Blue garter. and from what my LS mates told me
The one thing that's not clear to me yet is if it matters what type of walk you go on. One person on BG reported trying medium and long walks- does the event happen on all walks? Tahngarthor 14:06, 20 September 2006 (EDT)
I can say from personal experience that short walk worked. --Timon of Athens 22:29, 20 September 2006 (EDT)
Long walk works as well, I've found. --Volkai 13:52, 21 September 2006 (EDT)
I tried 3 short walks per day for 11 days straight, plus one day I gave it a chocolixir, so 36 failed tries. 12th day I tried a long walk and got it the first time around, so I'm suspecting each chocobo might hide the handkerchief in a different zone (i.e. walk duration), and possibly based on which walk type you usually do (before the whistle quest, I always did long walks, only switched to short walks to do more tries per day.
Two results I got: Your chocobo looks completely absorbed in it's activities: you can try searching for the item. Your chocobo looks very happy: he'll watch over his shoulder and notice you if you try getting the item. Not sure if there's an affection penalty or anything, but from my experience you always get caught. --KatTaliesyn 18:03, 27 October 2006 (EDT)
I must have just gotten lucky, I got the dirty handkerchief on my first try. My chocobo got sick, so I waited 2 earth days for her to get better after talking to the NPC in Sandy. When she wasn't ill, I took her on a long walk and got it. My affection level was "She seems to like you a lot." Akeda 21:03, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
Most annoying quest ever
Wasted about 2 weeks now trying to get the item. I get caught by my chocobo always when I try the middle walk or the long walk. Daniela 02:33, 4 October 2006 (EDT)
Obtaining the Whistle afterwards
Is it possible to obtain a whistle when the chocobo is gone? (I mean, when all the time has passed and it stays on the farm and i cant care for it anymore)
thanks!

Cheap Way of Getting a Recharge?
It costs 25,000 gil in order to recharge this chocobo whistle, is it possible that, while raising your second chocobo, toss your old whistle and complete the quest again for a new (free) whistle?
