I don't know a thing about pld/bst, so could someone who does have a clue about it bold the pertinent traits/abilities/pet commands? --Volkai 10:34, 17 March 2007 (EDT)

On limits of MP pool

With all due respect, I think I'm going to edit out this part:

Note: With the introduction of several new pieces of Refresh gear and Paladin's Auto Refresh job trait, MP is a non-issue.

Parade Gorget: (Lv.50) Very High HP only; impossible to keep PLD in that state full-time when tanking anything serious.
Hercules' Ring: (Lv.66) Low HP only; not safe keep PLD in that state most of the time.
Hydra Haubert (Lv.70): Limited charge item--does anyone actually use this on a regular basis?!
Ethereal Earring (Lv.72): Converts 3% of damage to MP, but 3 MP won't cure 100 HP. Need to beat Apocalypse Nigh.
Ares's Cuirass: (Lv.75) Cost about 10 million Gil on Ifrit (where I'm at), if one can get the Salvage pieces to start with; out of reach for most people.

For much of the levels, most of the auto-refresh gears aren't even available. The two available most early on are latent gears; Parade Gorget is great only when topped off, while Hercules' Ring is more for enmity and farming than actual MP recovery while taking for party/alliance. None of the rest are not easy to obtain at all.

Auto-Refresh job trait is 20MP/min; with Haste gear and spell or songs, PLD can get Flash (25MP) recast to 30 seconds fairly easily. Even adding in Sanction/Sigil, Auto-Refresh won't always cover Flash usage, much less heavy curing.

"MP is a non-issue" is too general a statement, and thus false. (Ever seen a Tarutaru PLD/NIN determined to get control back when JAs are down? He will blow 2/3 of the MP bar in less than a minute and drop Cure IV on every melee in sight, if that's what it takes. Imagine a Galka with less than 150 MP native MP pre-merit.) The effects of gear and auto-refresh is overstated, too, especially for gears when latent limitation and obtainability are considered. --FFXI-Itazura 12:50, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
