Talk:Shell
From FFXIclopedia, the free Final Fantasy XI encyclopedia
Has anyone else noticed that when a higher-level character casts a Protect or Shell on you, the duration is decreased? While leveling my 14DNC today, a SMN came by and Protect/Shell'D me, and while she cast Shell second, it wore off first. My first thought was because Shell is a level 17 spell and Protect is only level 7, kind of like Sneak/Invisible. Anyone else have any thoughts? -Mikauk 18:51, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
When you recieve a spell while below that spell's level, (the spell's level is the absolute lowest level it can be learned at. So Shell II would be 37 even when coming from a Paladin) the duration is cut based directly on your level in comparison to its.
If you're 20 and someone casts Haste (level 40) on you, the duration is 50% normal. If you were 10, the duration is 25%. If you were 39, the duration is 97.5%.
Merit spells, such as Phalanx II or Protectra V, are considered to be level 75 for purposes of determining duration. Additionally, Bard songs do not have their duration cut, and last their full duration.
(I'm not sure if Blue Spells work this way. Could a Blue Mage with Diffusion try AoEing a spell onto a very low party member and compare duration?) --Taeria 20:16, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
