The below two sites haven't updated in a while so I created a blog for people to add results to, as well as listing any that I can find that include Moon Phase here: http://strangeapparatusresults.blogspot.com/2008/12/goal-of-this-guide.html Alth Aaiaa 05:18, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

There is a project recording the rates on the various items from the SA at http://www.acewashere.thewebpage.net and a post on alla listing a lot of them to. http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=11;mid=113532200010329929;page=1;howmany=50#m1165271828290854105 --1.quos.vita.habitum.captivus

as for :"It is believed that the day that the Strange Apparatus is traded to affects the reward. Trading on a day matching the Apparatus's element is said to yield more of the common rewards (Cermet, Adaman, etc.), while trading on a day opposite to its element yields more Rune equipment (Arrows, Bangles, etc.). Results have yet to be fully confirmed."

If anyone wants to collect stats about that, I recieved a Rune chopper from the Gusgen Mines SA on:

Vana'diel: 20/20/1037, Earthsday, 7:01

Waning Gibbous (64%)

Earth: Dec. 16, 2007 6:55:21pm

Which would say that statement is false, but it could just be random luck. One incident isn't enough to verify or falsify the statement. More testing would be awesome, but I don't have the desire to do it, ^_^" I got the one thing I needed from the SA. I would like to think though, that it could possibly be moon phase that would affect the results. That seems to be a large factor with most things in this game.

I traded infinity core and blue chip in crawler's nest and got a water cluster. This guide says it should ask for a password too and it didn't ask me. Ganiman

Response: You're supposed to check the apparatus normally to get the password dialog. I've already described what's neccesary in the revamped entry, if you haven't looked already. XD --Maledict 00:24, 8 Jan 2006 (PST)

I see why I added that "muddled contraction" now. I didn't know how to do the piped links, and I was trying to make the link work. I guess I wasn't aware there still wasn't an article for "Infinity Core" yet. My fix didn't work because there was no article, so I guess I changed the wording to ghetto-rig it since I didn't know the coding.  ;3 Rudeness was not neccessary.

A clarification on "day opposite its element" is also still needed, and the information about Rune Weapons being unique to each apparatus is entirely wrong. I leave it to Maledict to make these adjustments, but please know they've been very misleading to myself and other players I've spoken to. --Chacharu 20:28, 1 April 2006 (PST)

(This is my first time using this so please don't murder me if I make a mistake)

Anyway, I've played around with the some Strange Apparatus stuff, mostly the one in Gusgen Mines, but a few runs to other places (Mines are just faster to get to). From what I've seen in my tests, the weapons don't appear to be "unique" excatly. The Rune Chopper is by far the most common in the Gusgen Mines, but I've also gotten a few Rune Axes, and one Rune Bow. Also I came up with some Rune Arrows and Bangles, but those seem possible for every apparatus.

Also, a note about the elemental day, I will soon be recording my data, but the trend seems to be that "common" items come most on the MATCHING elemental day (Earth = Earths day, Fire = Fires day, etc.) where as the day the element is WEAK (Earth < Wind, Fire < Water, etc.) seems to bring a combonation of Rune Weapons and Common Items, about equal. The STRONG elemental day (Earth > Thunder, Fire > Ice, etc.) appears to bring mostly the items in a sort of half-way area, Arrows, Flowerpots, and Bangles.

Again, all my elemental info is UNRECORDED data, that's just how it appeared to me. I'll check back later and document every trade from now on, including Moon status. --Svak 21:37, 15 August 2006 (EDT)

The aritcle mentions the Ranguemont Pass Strange Apparatus being gray and unusable. I have not tried this yet but it might be possible to operate it by trading the gray chip used in CoP 3-5 to it. --Ruby 17:18, 3 May 2007 (GMT)

Response: I'm in Ranguemont Pass right now, and there's nothing to target in the Strange Apparatus room to trade a gray chip to. I'm only on CoP 2-5, so I suppose it's possible that something targetable appears later in the missions, but it seems unlikely. Seral 20:02, 21 August 2007 (CDT)

If you ask me, based on the table in this wiki entry, the first three Strange Apparatuses are those of melee jobs, the fourth and fifth of hybrid jobs, and the last three of mage jobs. Alth Aaiaa 17:32, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Results from Trades

I've copied all the results to a relevant section, and added my own at the end. If any of the contributors want to change/remove the data from above where I copied it, I'll let them do so (rather than change it myself without their permission). --Boswen 17:25, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

  • Just traded a pair of cores and green chips to the Strange Apparatus in Ordelle's Caves, got 6x rune arrows and a rune bow. Was traded on Windsday. --Stiker 22:23, 6 February 2007
  • Used password to get doctor status, Watersday Waning Gibbous (90%), Crawler's Nest apparatus gave me a Rune Bow. Data entered to table accordingly. --Vaius 07:13, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
  • Used password to get doctor status, IceDay, Ordelle Cave apparatus gave me : Halleberd, 6 Rune Arrow, and 8 Cermet. And dark day, Labyrinth of shakrami gave me: 6 rune arrow, 8 cermet. --Symemys 10:47, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
  • Traded twice in Gusgen Mines on Earthsday, and got 8x Cermet chunk, and Arcane Flowerpot. Just did 7 trades in Outer Horutoto, and got 2x8 Cermet Chunk, 3x6 Rune Arrow, 2 Adaman Nugget, and Rune Halberd. --Valle 12:02, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
  • I went to The Eldieme Necropolis today, got Doctor status, and had these results: Rune Halberd, 8 Cermet Chunks, 8 Cermet Chunks, and an Arcane Flowerpot! The Vana'diel Time was 12/26/1053, Windsday 21:03; Waning Crescent (21%) --Boswen 17:25, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
  • The Eldieme Necropolis, Doctor Status, Iceday, Clear Chip, New Moon10%, No weather Element, got 6 Rune Arrow.
  • Went to Garliage Citadel, traded on Darksday (with Doctor status) with White Chip, got 8 Cermet Chunks. Moon Phase: Waning Gibbous (60%). This is just one case where the proposed trend of trading on the elementally weak day to get a Rune result didn't work. -- Alth Aaiaa 18:37, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
  • Gusgen Mines, Earthday, Last Quarter Moon, 45%, 4 trades of Yellow chips

--Keneth 05:15, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

  • Crawler's Nest, Doctor Status, Earth's Day, Waxing Crescent 12%, 6 Blue Chips & Infinity Cores

Storyline?

These things have always puzzled me since I saw my first on in Crawlers Nest.

Do these fit into the storyline in any way?

They're built of the typical ancient white cement seen all around Vana'D but you need the hearts of the Dynamis statues in order to make them function; I've no idea how Zilart and Diabolos really cross paths on this.

Given that, I'd love to know when these were actually implemented into the game.

Am I just over thinking this and is it really just a neat way of earning different weapons? Acker 17:22, 6 September 2007 (CDT)

I remember seeing these shortly after I started playing in '03, when I went to Crawlers' Nest and camped in the not-so-secret room. This means they must be at least as old as Rise of the Zilart, if not older. I do not know what significance they hold for the storyline, if any. They may just be remnants from the Kuluu/Zilart society, and have no other importance. --Anobi 02:47, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Carmine, Cyan chips.

has it never actually dawned on anyone but me to actually try trading either of those 2 chips to the 2 other working machines?

  • I see no reason for this to work, except there being a third machine that is non-responsive, for the gray chip... either way, iirc none of the machines say anything, but next time I get an infinity core I'll try and remember to test it out--Siniroth-Hades 20:51, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
  • Tried trading a Cyan chip to the apparatus in Fei'yin. When simply talking to the machine the message "It is some sort of device. There is no response..." is given. When traded a Cyan chip, or rather anything at all (I also tried a maple log, the chip alone, an infinity core alone, and a chip and infinity core together) the following message is given - "The voice of a young woman rings in your head. 'S-level warn...Shutti...own systems...prevent...stem overlo...' The voice in your head has gone silent." So it appears they really don't function, or don't function the same way at least. --Zyhlaari 02:34, September 6, 2009 (UTC)

zzz name

What happens if your name begins with zzz and you try and get doctor status at the Maze of Shakhrami? The pass code would be 25+7 = 32 for the first three sets of two but then the last set of two would be 32+32+32=96 + 7 = 103? --Reabs 02:33, October 15, 2009 (UTC)
