Talk:Tachi: Enpi

From FFXIclopedia, the free Final Fantasy XI encyclopedia

I am not sure where the translator got his information from, but I can say the full Japanese including kanji for this weapon skill is:

壱之太刀・燕飛 : ichi no tachi: enpi

which would translate more along the lines of "First style of the tachi: The Swallow's Flight"

I'm native Japanese speaker. Reiryuu's indication is right. "Tachi" means katana itself, and also means "the katana arts"(this wording is right? :D) in this context. For example, "Tachi: Gekko" in Japanese is "八之太刀・月光(hachi no tachi: gekko)." It can be translated as "8th style of the tachi: moonlight."

If these more elaborate meanings exist, why aren't they listed on the pages? I wouldn't mind moving them myself, but I don't want to do anything too ostentatious. Also, I'd like to remove the portion where it says, "pronounced like 'empee". Granted, 'n' is easily mutated into an 'm' when paired with the 'h/b/p' consonant lines in Japanese, I believe it's still a bit unrealistic to say it's straight pronounced that way. Alot of translitorators have moved words like 'ganbare' into 'gambare', but it's still wrong. It's pronounced "E'n'pee", where the n is technically it's own consonant. I know it's getting alot more complicated than it needs to be, which is why I think it ought to be left out all together.

Who makes the call that we change the meaning into 'first style of tachi: swallow's flight'? Should I just move it and keep the original meanings as a more basic interpretation? --SongOfChaos 17:39, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

I decided to go ahead and update the various Great Katana weapon skills with the original kanji and elaborate meanings. I did reseaarch to verify the information and add detail as applicable. If someone would like to elaborate or correct, by all means. =) Though I'd prefer some discourse here first; I think I got this stuff down. >_> Hope no one minds the update. --SongOfChaos 01:56, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Removing skillchain tables

I'm going to remove all the skillchain info from the Great katana ws pages, they're nice looking and dont really like undoing someone's hard work but that's what Skillchain and the calculators are for on that page, and the list doesnt have every possible combination or are even complete for the listed ones (which has mostly to do with it's age, none of the mythic ws's were available when it was added(?) ). If this is a problem feel free to revert my edits, I'll editing the page in two steps for convienience --Themanii 00:29, September 21, 2009 (UTC)
