Talk:Taisai

From FFXIclopedia, the free Final Fantasy XI encyclopedia

Kanji spelling of Taisai is 太歳(grand year) and means Jupiter(planet). Precisely, it is an imaginary star placed at the opposite of the celestial sphere to Jupiter. Jupiter's orbital period is close to 12 years and old chinese astronomers divided it into 12 to measure years.

Taisai as a creature is named after this imaginary star. It has thousands of eyes and blobish body like Taisai in the game. And it is considerd to travel underground following Jupiter.

"Bye-bye, Taisai" (title obtained by defeating Taisaijin) is a parody of "Sayonara Jupiter" or "Bye-bye Jupiter", a rubbish Sci-Fi novel/movie by KOMATSU Sakyo.

Here is a more direct wiki article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tai_Sui

Taisai(Taisui in Chinese) is an imaginary star opposite of the Jupiter, while Taisuijin(Tai sui xin jun in Chinese), is a deity derived from tai sui, and has 3 heads and 6 arms, but a humanoid torso, which is a common image of deities in battle form in Taoism and Chinese folklore (they magically transform to this from a full human form for battle)

Here is what a normal taisaijin portrait would look like in a place of worship:

The monstrous forms are only introduced later in popular Japanese games such as Siren 2.
