Discussion

A thought, possible to add interwiki language links to the variables? --CharitwoTalk 23:51, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

I don't agree with Status, it screams spoilers. --CharitwoTalk 04:35, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

<!--- text --->

This doesn't work the way you want it too in all cases here. I've removed it from problem areas, but I'm sure it's superfluous code and it's causing problems in some cases. It's resolved for the issue I was seeing but the remaining ones may cause positional problemsthat I was experiencing regarding "Location:" on Guild Merchant pages. Removed the <!--- ---> in that area of the template fixed the problem. --Chrisjander t/ c 03:25, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

The <!---s and --->s have no impact on the template at all; they are only there to assist editing. They are positioned that way to make the code easier to read when editing without causing spacing issues that result if you add line breaks without them. The problem wasn't fixed from thier removal, but from the line breaks you added when you removed them.

If I'm seeing the problem right, it was caused by inserting a list into something that was coded to be one line of normal text in the template, thus making the "Location" line appear after a <br> on the end of the list (*<list item><br>'''Location:''') instead of ending the list's paragraph and starting a new one (which would result in normal-looking text). By adding the line break in the template, you allowed the list's paragraph to end and fixed the problem. The only problem with this fix is that it may cause spacing issues for pages that don't use Location (none?).

The other parts of the template were designed to use lists and are coded so they won't have this problem, so you don't have to worry about them. ~ Karuberu 05:01, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

However, adding that extra <br> to the input or the template didn't work (I tried that first), and copying the paragraph form did nothing at all. For some reason it was causing the template to ignore the <enter> on the line, and since that code serves no purpose other than to make "reading" the code easier (which it makes it harder to read for me, personally), I removed it from the troubled spots. --Chrisjander t/ c 13:41, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Ok, I think you misunderstood me; let me try explaining again. The editing notes (the <!--- and ---> and everything between them) were there to make this easier to read without adding empty lines to the pages that use the template. This is what my code would have looked like without them:

{{FFXIbox/End}}'''Type:''' {{#if:{{{type|}}}|{{{type}}}|[[NPC]]}}<br>{{#if:{{{location|}}}|'''Location:''' {{{location}}}<br>|}}<br>{{#if:{{{starts missions|}}}|'''Starts Missions:'''<p>
{{{starts missions}}}

You removed the <!--- and --->, but you didn't remove the notes between them (in this case, a line break). The new line break fixed the problem you were having. It's a decent fix, but will cause some slight issues with empty lines appearing in the pages that don't use "Location". If it's used where the other editing notes are, it'll cause more major problems with empty space. ~ Karuberu 22:02, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Except that all pages should include a location. --Chrisjander t/ c 22:57, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

You have it set as optional right now. I'll change it. ~ Karuberu 23:17, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Interwiki links

The interwiki links are not going to work, as articles in different languages will not have the English title. --CharitwoTalk 03:40, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

I thought NPCs all share the same names? Not true? --GAHOO t/ c 04:02, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

Not Japanese for sure, not sure about the others. Don't have the other clients for comparison, but there's no Spanish version of the game either, so... --CharitwoTalk 04:05, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

At least in german they are the same.--Calvagh 11:19, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

All the NPC names in Japanese are the same. All of them. Same with mob names. Only the interface, the chatlog, what the NPCs say to you, and items are in Japanese. Player names, NPC names, mob names are all the exact same as in English. I can assure you of this, as I play on a JP client now (full immersion ftw). --Chrisjander t/ c 13:17, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Great. Means a mob template is in our future. :) --GAHOO t/ c 13:29, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Adventurer's Assistants and their images

Some AAs have unique images/documents that they show to adventurers. Whether it be a map of the combined zones of San d'Oria, a Beast/Prey strength chart, or a star map, these images are an important part of the information these NPCs impart. I think we should add a secondary image field (call it "showandtell" or something) for these types of NPCs. Undecided as to where it should be displayed or how big it should be, but I think perhaps just to the left of the infobox that hugs the right side, and to thumbnail it at 100px or so. Thoughts/feedback? --Chrisjander t/ c 19:11, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

File:Temporary Image - InfoboxNPC.JPG
Temporary image, delete after Oct 30th

Take a look at this image for an example of what I'm talking about, and where I propose to have the template throw the image. --Chrisjander t/ c 19:19, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Agreed. --GAHOO t/ c 19:33, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Multiple jobs

The template doesn't support multiple jobs gracefully, as trying to just put them all on the same line causes a broken link (e.g. putting Red Mage/Paladin results in Red Mage/Paladin, rather than the intended effect of Red Mage/Paladin), and trying to put partial braces in the field breaks the template. --Melios 19:13, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Template Edit in progress

I'm trying to clean up, simplify, and add some additional functionality to this template. All without breaking anything. Well I'm trying... --laraul 18:44, September 17, 2009 (UTC).
