Cid: What, you want to hear about the Multinational Expedition? Cid: What is there to know? Everybody that went on that damned mission passed away or was... Cid: I usually don't believe in anything crazy like magic or curses, but after hearing the stories about what happened up there in the northlands, I don't think there may be any other explanation. Cid: You already heard from the other two nations that the expedition was formed on the suggestion of the Republic, right? Cid: <Sigh> Maybe it's time that I face up to my past crimes... I was the one that pressured the government into sending a party to the Northlands. Cid: Thirty years ago, a man brought a strange stone to the Metalworks. Cid: It wasn't any bigger than my fist, but just by standing near it you could feel the power flowing from its facets. Cid: That power was greater than that of any crystal I had ever seen. I was shocked and amazed by what laid before my eyes. Cid: When the man told me that it was a fragment of a crystal that was found in the Northlands, I was convinced that something more was hiding up there. Cid: I thought if I could find that energy source and bring it back to Bastok, the Republic would thrive, ultimately becoming the strongest, most advanced nation in the world. Cid: So I told my discovery to the president at the time, and suggested that he ready an expedition led by a party of musketeers. Cid: It was supposed to be top-secret, but somehow the information leaked to the other two nations, and... Cid: And in the end, the expedition turned up nothing, and we lost more than we could ever have imagined... Cid: Now that I think of it, the energy from that stone might have been enough to power the crystal propulsion unit. Cid: Could Jeuno have already found a new source of energy in the Northlands? Cid: If I only had that rock... Unfortunately, it disappeared thirty years ago...right around the time of the expedition. Cid: The man who sold me the stone--a stone which he called "magicite"--said that he brought it from Tavnazia, and that it was a piece of a larger gem known as the "Star of Tavnazia." Cid: Maybe that crazy blue-haired girl from the island knows something about that gem. Cid: Do you think you could ask her for me?

Aldo: Ah, Player name. Just the man/woman I wanted to see. Aldo: A young lady claiming to be Prishe's acquaintance is here... Ulmia: Player name! It is so nice to see you again. Have you not seen Prishe about? Ulmia: Hm? You are searching for her as well? Ulmia: I see... You wish to know more of the magicite gem that a peddler from Tavnazia sold to Bastok over thirty years ago... Ulmia: I do recall hearing stories of the "Star of Tavnazia"; unfortunately, I have never actually set my eyes upon it. I do not know what it is, or if the magicite was a piece of it. Aldo: Magicite... The Star of Tavnazia... Ulmia: ? Sir Aldo? You would not happen to know anything of the gem, would you? Aldo: I've heard stories of a mysterious gem kept in the Tavnazian Cathedral. If that relic is also magicite, I wonder in what way it's connected with the other magicite found around Vana'diel... Aldo: Deep within the Orc, Quadav, and Yagudo strongholds, there are doors that the beastmen guard with their lives. Beyond those doors lie giant crystals emitting a strange, eerie light. Aldo: If the beastmen were drawn to these crystals and chose those areas to build their towns, then the magicite in the Northlands is more than likely... Hmmm... Ulmia: Perhaps someone in Tavnazia knows something. However, we cannot leave without Prishe. Oh, where could she have wandered off to? Sattal-Mansal: Leader! That girl! She's been taken to Doctor Monberaux's! Aldo: What!? What happened!? Sattal-Mansal: It seems that she was attacked while visiting the Temple of the Goddess! Aldo: Attacked!? Ulmia: Prishe!
